Cayin N5ii Android based Master Quality Digital Audio Player

I've had to use this method with a few different DAPs and their tight-fitting cases. But it's worst with the N5II. SOOOO TIGHT!

I
Is there an online manual for the unit? The included instructions (creatively inserted in the flap of the box) don’t really get to deep into the machine.

I am wondering if there are tricks for navigation for example. Also quick ways to shut down third party apps.

As an aside, I have been playing the Sirius XM app. I knew it did not have the full fidelity of FLAC files, but I am starting to realize just how different the sound of some streaming music apps can be compared to playing FLAC or DSD files.

I am very happy with how well the built in LAN capability synchronizes with my Synology for hi res FLAC. This makes the unit seem to have HUGE storage capabilities when used in the house.
Have you set the streaming quality to extreme in the Spotify app?
I know it's not as good as flac but it's supposed to be at least 320kb mp3.

Ummm.....Sirius XM is not the same as Spotify. But I do have Sirius XM set for max quality. Still it plays compressed music and that simply can't touch uncompressed music. Yes, I can hear it. I don't want to start a typical flame war about compressed vs. uncompressed I will just state that Sirius XM even at full quality does not touch FLAC or DSD on this machine to my ear.

I wouldn't consider using Sirius for music on any platform it really is bad, Spotify on extreme quality can be surprisingly good for casual listening depending on the artist.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, Stop the clock! You know that Noine out of Ten listeners tune in to Sirius XM for Howard. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, then Bye for now :D

But seriously, the audio on satellite radio is compressed during transmission, and good for speech and mid-fi sound quality. Otherwise, go for Spotify and Tidal.

Hi, N5ii Manual is in the process of final reviewing. Once we will release it, I will informed you as soon as possible. For quick ways to shut down third party apps, I normally open the pull down menu and activate Audio Priority mode to turn off all the Apps.

The audio on the streaming app is much better than the satellite audio. Also, for what its worth, there are actually two radio technologies in place for Sirius. One from Sirius that is pretty bad, and one from XM that is not bad really. My care, I think, has the Sirius technology and is poor sounding. I turned it off and just use the streaming app. Actually most of the time I just feed audio from my DAP units into the auxiliary input. My wife's car has, I think, the XM technology and is fairly listenable.

Oh, I don't care for Howard Stern at all. But I adore the Spectrum and Classic Vinyl in particular.

Anyway, I like the option of playing music apps on this device.

The initial accolades on this unit seem appropriate to me. And thanks to Cayin staff for being so attentive to this forum. It reminds me of the days when Joseph Yeung ( now at Hiby) was known as Joe Bloggs and really was an asset to FIIO. I have been itching to own a Cayin device since I reviewed the I5 and was very impressed by Cayin support and wanted to become a customer in part just because of that.

Hi,
I have also received N5ii yesterday. I did not get any sound when I connect N5ii to IFI Micro IDSD Black with type-c to female USB cable. After several reboot operations & plugging the cable again&again , It somehow worked(with USB mode) . I just want to use this device as a transport to Mojo/IFI with TH900. But there seems to be really high noise even when bluetooth and wifi is turned off.
But I can use it seamlessly no matter when and how I plug the cable with my Samsung S8 Plus using the same connection.

The other problem occurs when I want to copy files from Windows10 NTFS file system. It warns me that the properties of the file will be lost if I continue to copy. It prompts the same warning for each file. If I copy them, N5ii does not see any audio files(wav, dsd, aiff etc) when I scan the folder. But if I use Mac Mini to copy them from Synology NAS, there is no problem.. I have not yet tried to play files directly from Synology but I do have very little hope that it will work at the first time. As far as I read, Some users experienced problems and could not achieve that using its own software.(trying different stable music player apps may work, I will try to install UAPP)

I have been following the thread for a long time. I have read lots of bugs and solutions some of which I have already forgotten due to huge number of problems..

I am a little bit disappointed to own a product with lots of bugs. I have Mojo and IFI Micro IDSD Black.. They work seamlessly without any bug from day one. Do chineese companies have to have quality problems in most major areas in life no matter what the subject is?!!! @Andykong tries to help everyone and I appreciate that. But I do not appreciate Cayin as a company. They fail when we talk about quality.

By the way I have already updated the firmware to the latest one.

I don't have win10 PC but I almost transfer files from my win7 PC to N5ii everyday, and everything works perfect on my side. To solve your problem quickly, could you please send me a sreen shot of that error?

I just received my N5ii yesterday. It's my first Android DAP. I've updated the latest firmware and installed the two TF cards (128gb ea.) I had been using in my FiiO X5ii.
The FW installed correctly and my music library is intact!

Now I haven't listened much at this point, but have two observations:
-the website mentions capacitive touch buttons. Strangely, I do not notice these on the N5ii. (I also own their N3 and I can definitely feel the touch feedback on that player.) Is there an ON/OFF setting like the N3?
-the VU meters randomly stop responding: sometimes in the middle of song playback, sometimes when one song ends and another begins. Retuning to the HOME screen restores the VU meters function.
Anyone else notice these behaviors?
Also----
What format does Cayin recommend the TF cards be formatted in? and finally...what resolution (size) would you recommend the jpg. album should be for best viewing?

Thanks for your responses and assistance!!

Charlie

Hi, N5ii is different from N3 and doesn't have the capactive button. I never met the nonreactive VU table as you said. But it is noteworthy that N5ii VU meter will behave unresponding when it playback DSD files, because VU meter is animated effect calculated by multi-bit while DSD files only have 1 bit. Besides, VU meter is a playback effect and doesn't serve other functions. Please don't worry much about that. Cayin can work with most of regular TF card formats like FAT32, NTFS, exFAT etc. Less 1024*1024 resolution cover is recommended.

Thank you very much for your reply and additional information. I am really enjoying the player! It has a very nice overall musicality.

I think you have confused the capacitive touch screen of N5ii with the capacitive touch button in N3, they are completely different technology, and you won't feel the vibrating feedback on capacitive touch screen.

Thanks, Andykong! Yes, I was expecting the tactile feel to be the same between the N3 and N5ii. I am enjoying the player very much-listening and exploring my first Android based DAP! Great player and very musical!
