Very good eyes, the input tubes are 12AU7. The two rectifier tubes on the left are 22DE4

Does the HA-6A put out 6.3 volts to the 12AU7 tubes? I can't fine my tube sockets that I use for testing voltages while in circuit. Weird, I have them for every type of tube and have no idea where I put them.

would it be better to run the HA-6A with a Pre from a Gustard A26 or from a Pre on a Topping A90D? or should I just run it w/o a preamp? thanks!

Hey guys,

I used to own the Ha-6a before I upgraded to my Octave V16.
I consider the Octave to be a rare direct upgrade to the Ha-6a also utilizing just a pair of KT88 type tubes. So that you can continue to use your tube collection.

I have the opportunity to trade in my Octave by the end of the week (I will switch to 300B tubes with the Feliks Envy)
Therefore I will offer the amp at an especially low price this week, maybe someone wants to have the opportunity to walk the same road.
Either it finds a buyer till friday or it will be with the dealer afterwards.

That means starting next week when the amp is gone I will start to sell my tube collection.

Buy tubes, have fun there are no bad tubes what hps do you use and what sound do you want? (analytical, bright, full, musical etc) There's plenty of tube impressions on here.

I’m currently using Atrium and Utopia with the amp and the pairing sound really magical to me!

I feel like I’m more leaning towards something musical as to me the Utopia sounds better when combined with tube amp (fuller, more musical). When I changed the standard tube to the Mullard EL34 and Tungsol 12au7, I found the sound to be sweeter, lusher and wider soundstage. I feel like it’s also more detailed on the top end and has a tighter bass.

Ah, now we're talking. Telefunken 12au7 smooth plate, totl silver cable for Utopia, Gold Lion KT77 (runs as EL34) and Sophia Electric KT88 and you're cooking on gas. For extra crispy presentation also get Telefunken EL34 (or AEG, the mother company) and for more lushness Mullard re-issue 12au7.

That should give you plenty of quality options to play with your Utopia. If you have a good dac and totl interconnects (I recommend totl silver interconnects for tubes) you'll be floored with what you'll get with Utopia :> have fun

Just confirmed with our Engineer, the 12AU7 filament voltage is 6.3V.

Thank you. 6SN7s would be nice in there though I actually prefer the 12SN7 as it is quieter due to the higher heater voltage. I have to find my test sockets.

Yeah that looks like a smooth plate. I'm not a tube expert btw, but it looks like that's it.

I've only tried SE KT88, no experience with their other lines. I've got my impressions of them in this thread if you do a search. TL;DR is they they are warm off neutral, full bodied, really detailed and play well with Utopia. I've heard EL34 are bright, no idea about 12au7.
