Hello,

i have some, maybe dumb, questions.
Is it worth it to copple with the Cayin N8II, are there even sound improvements?
How does it pair with the Sony NWM1ZM2,any experiences? the one of jjss sounds pretty nice.
Alternatively, is it possible to connect a smartphone to the C9II and if how? are there some cheap and small mini dacs/dongles with line out?

Thanks in advance

IMHO you should get a really good DAC, as it makes a big difference in sound quality. I really like my iBasso D16, but I don't know how good it works with the C9ii. Maybe the iBasso Elite might be a solution, haven't tested it myself but it seems to be good.

Edit: Sorry, it seems the iBasso DC Elite doesn't have a Line Out

Interested in the C9. Can I leave it plugged into the mains, or is it like the C9 that cant be left plugged in whilst playing music? Whilst I appreciate it is a transportable device, in my case I like the small desk space it would take up, but I would not be moving it anywhere and prefer the 'set and forget' of not needing to charge it etc.

FWIW I would be pairing this with my Hugo 2, and some IEMs such as the Fei Wan or Duality. If anyone knows of a synergy issue with the Hugo 2 I would be interested to know.

Sorry for my bad english. Do you meant to ask wether it is possible to use the Cayin C9ii while it is connected for loading?
I just bought it yesterday, I can try out in about 8 hours.

The Hugo 2 is a nice device, no surprise that I could and can not try this out but I don't See why it shouldn't be great.

If you never want to use it on battery, maybe a small sized desktop amp would be the better option for you though.

Chord Hugo 2 / Cayin C9II is a great combo and is my transportable setup. In fact I’m on a cruise and have them with me right now.. You will won’t regret the combo of the H2 with either the C9 or C9II.

Allow me explain a bit more in detail. I'll provide an example where same ground is a problem.

For example, if you're using a laptop, and connect N7 to it through USB to make it works as a DAC & source for the C9, then you can’t charge the C9 through the USB port of your laptop, because they share the same ground, and doing so will trigger the C9’s protection mechanism.

However, you can charge the C9 while if you use a separate charger.

Detailed explanation available here.

That said, we generally don’t recommend charging while playing, as it raises the battery temperature. A more optimal setup would be to get a spare battery tray and a second set of 18650 batteries. When one pack runs out, just swap in the other and charge the depleted pack separately. It’s kinda similar to “set and forget” kind of solution, but much healthier!

Goldfox.
To that end as you mentioned above getting a spare battery tray for the C9ii, is there a timetable for when they will become available?
I agree that will be the best way to have power on hand for the C9ii and have been waiting to get a second tray.

Thanking you in advance for this info.

Why a separate battery tray? Just get a battery charger and spare batteries, and swap batteries.
I have two sets of batteries, charged, but have not had the need to do that, I just charge C9 when not in use is sufficient for my use.

Hey Njoyz!

Quite embarrassing to admit, earlier I promised to update you guys as soon as we had a confirmed date, and originally the plan was to have the spare battery trays of C9ii ready by this month or next. But as it stands now, there’s been a delay, and unfortunately, I don’t have a firm date just yet.

I’ll keep a close eye on this and let you know 🫡

Just a suggestion my friend! Of course you can simply remove the battery tray and swap in a fresh set of charged cells, no problem at all.

I was thinking what Marcus was aiming for is more of a fast and 'set-and-forget' experience, swapping the whole tray and then charging the tray gets pretty close to that!
