A bit of love for the Cascade...after years of speaker only music listening I bought the Cascade as my first “new” headphone. Back in the day I used to have Sennheiser, AKG, Beyerdynamic and Audio Technica...

I decided to go Cascade because it can be driven from almost anything an according the comments in this forum it scales good with better equipment plus it has a fun sound.

At first it had absourd amount of bass. I almost sent them back. Then I gave it time and it got better and better so in the end I kept them. Now, I absolutely love them.

For music I use the lambskin pad with no filter (the factory white filter also removed) for gaming/movie the soft fabrick pad.

Besides being fun and mighty sounding this can never-ever kills a record because its quality. Every music is there to enjoy. I think one of the strenght of the Cascade is its highs. They manage somehow never becoming to hot. But they are also not dull or boring.

And they really-really can scale. I bought a symmetrical cable for it and balanced drive makes a huge difference (in my system).

I think they are truly the music lovers headphone.

I invited some non-audiophile friends around to try some of my headphones, and they really loved the Cascades. Here's part 1 (of 3) of the result. Part 2 also has the Cascades in there.

My Cascade was purchased a couple of months back; it has the blacked-out logo. It came with the same 4 filters - HD7, HD10, HD12, and HD15.

Has anyone compared the original version of the cascade to the 2020 revision? I saw a review on the HeadAmp website and apparently it only comes with two filters and might have been re-tuned.
That's interesting. Is this speculation that they've changed the tuning or fact? I would definitely buy again if they tamed the mid-bass.

That's interesting. Did it come with the new or old style of packaging?

I bought mine this summer. It has the new packaging, the blackened logo and it had 4 filters.

I think I have the same packaging for the 2020 variant (second owner, first got from headamp a couple months ago), only two filters, and some FR tuning changes compared to my prior version but I still need to burn them in – the rest is pretty similar.

There might be a change to the texture and tension but I don't know if that's from the age difference.

This is the response I got when I asked the support team at Campfire:

So there are now 3 versions of the Cascade? -
  1. The original package, with 4 filters and the white logo. Original box design.
  2. The 1st revised package, with 4 filters and the black logo. New box design
  3. The 2nd revised package, with 2 filters and the black logo. New box design.
Sound-wise, it appears that nothing has been changed. That's a good thing.

The finish texture is definitely different as they confirmed: powder coated instead of anodized – I prefer the anodized finish for sure.

I'd be curious why they would stop offering the other filters if they hadn't retuned them a bit – I can't confirm the difference without burning in the new one quite a bit.
