Still on the way home. In Minneapolis for a three hour layover...will be getting home at about 1am, then back to work at 7 am. It's not going to be a very productive day I think.
biggrin.gif
Oh sweet!!! A lightening storm in Minneapolis, should be a fun flight.
biggrin.gif

Flight delayed 30 min, crew got diverted due to the storm...backup crew being called up.

Yeah, the flight in was rough around the airport, severe cross wind, the plane was 45 degrees to the runway till the wheels hit. Yeehah!!!
smily_headphones1.gif

Heh, just saw a clean up crew going into one of the planes that just landed, someone must have lost their cookies.
biggrin.gif

unfortunately I can't do that cuz I've got to drive 2 hours when I get to Grand Forks

ACK!!! the flight attendants are here but we have no flight crew. they are stuck in Appleton Wisconsin. our new departure time is 11:40. looks like I'm not going to get any sleep tonight.

I enjoyed my CanJam, Even if I only had like 1 hour to see everything. In my 1 hour I got to do this:

1. Buy Darin Fong's OOYH software
2. Listen to 5 minutes of the 1954 A10, and 2 minutes of the A12 (Preferred the 10)
3. Talk to Schiit about Schiit.
4. Try the AK240SS (on my list)
5. Try the Angie (like it.)
6. Say hi to Jude
7. Say hi to Brannan
8. Say hi to Dimitri (Musica Acoustics)
8. Get 3d impressions at United Sciences and UE (so weird seeing the inside of your ear on the camera)
9. Get silicone impressions at Noble (Thanks Brannan) and talk Noble 6C (Thanks Brannan) and Prestige (I hate you Noble), while the SHaG was going on.
10. Get the Aurender Cast-fi (Aurender ftw), and Geek Out 1000 and 100s
11. Admire the ifi setup
12. Talk to Mr. Cavalli (didn't get to test anything :c)
13. Talk to Dan (MrSpeakers) and got something special (Thanks Dan, you da man, keep it coming!!!!)
14. Talk to Dimitri again, get some cables and the InEar Stage Diver 4, and listen to Audio Zenith headphones (Go Alex, I'll look forward to those 'phones)
15. Talk to Warren (I'm looking forward to them shirts!)
16. Talk to Jude and the gang in front of the hifiman area (as they all pack up)
17. Try the Pono-HE1000 setup (worth a try :) )
18. Say goodbye and zoom back to my hotel

All in all, 1 hour well spent! Hopefully more stars line up and I get to attend more CanJams in the future, and maybe even RMAF :)

Thanks for the great show, head-fi and CanJam teams! You da bestest!

It was great meeting you, even if it was so short!

Marcus is reading the above and weeping right now.

I spent Monday hanging out with Warren, Bob and Amos. Great folks!

Amos was so happy, I think he smiled for 30 minutes non-stop!

Bill ! Wasn't it you who showed me the modded DT770's?

Someone has asked me in pm if you plan on posting a description of your mod somewhere. Pretty please?
rolleyes.gif

Haha, I will do so soon. The thing with it is that I'll also need to prepare some photos, and I'm feeling lazy after all of that rush.

But I will get to it soon this weekend, and release a bunch of details on various mods. You can probably still see the DT770 mod diary in my signature.

The funny thing with that is... I forgot to update it, and already perfected the mod by the time I looked back!

I think that may be partly why you won, perhaps few people participated in the hunt. (I didn't, but could not qualify anyway if I wanted to). Everybody who won has won a big prize so far and it seems like almost everyone who did it won something, so congrats!

Me any my brother in law both put in a card and won nothing.  I agree though I don't think many people tried to finish it.  I was sure one of us would have won something.

This was my first headphone meet and CanJam experience of my life. I'm still relatively new to the whole scene and found out that this community is one of the best I've ever seen in my life. I was actually quite nervous since I have seen the various graphs, measurements, and how most audiophiles there compared to me were VERY knowledgeable compared to me. I felt like I almost didn't fit in before I went and would see my audiophile friends talk about these seemingly foreign things when it came to headphones, and audio in general. I can barely identify a feel of a sound stage, and still am not familiar with identifying low, mids, highs, treble, etc. and the list goes on. Personally I wanted to go a meet in general ever since I heard the music in such a way that only could be experienced with these high end headphones.

I helped setup and then when I was no longer needed I had become nervous as to where to start. I had barely heard any headphones, on a select amount of amps or just from a phone as a source. I had no idea of which amps I should try, or how to operate some of these setups in a way where I felt comfortable just plugging in my phone or listening to the demo songs. But then I found out that everyone is really nice and helps you even if you're new. The press conferences that were there winded up, more likely than not, understandable even to a newcomer to the scene. I also had the honor to work as part of the event staff. I asked around and although in the beginning it was a very surreal and intimidating feeling I came out of CanJam wanting more of this world, and see why my audiophile friends love it so much.

I came into the event with a pair of HiFiMAN HE-400s with a malfunctioned cable as my only gear hoping to get a new cable and left with a Fiio E9, some Atomic Floyd AirJax Titanium2 IEMs, and won a raffle prize of the Phillips X2/27 Fidelios and got a replacement cable. I was so surprised I got the luck I did in getting these items considering my budget, and now only lacking a portable amp. I previously thought for a long time when I would look at my audiophile friends gear that I'd probably be only able to enter this world after I got a better budget, but now I realize it's not as difficult to make, as @moedawg140 had told me, the leap of faith from a normal listener of music to an audiophile.

Thank you all so much for making this one of the best experiences of my life, and for being so friendly!
Edit: I'd like to go into more detail, but not sure if this is already a post that is too long for a reply.

Hey man, it was great meeting you at the show.  I was so happy (and yes, more than a little jealous) for you when you won those X2's; you looked so psyched!

We were all noobies at some point, you gotta start somewhere.  And it looks like you're off to a great start.  I can't wait to see you around Head-fi.

EDIT - And yes, post more!  Did you see how long my post was??  lol

It has one hell of a sound. The work he put into the power supply alone really shows in the low-end factor. This thing outputs some monster bass.. never thought an amp would have such an influence over the sound

what a great show. i had a good time. it was nice to see everyone  again. i got to hear some really great stuff, coming from 2 channel high end hifi i must say this is a much more exiting and friendly part of audio. so many great products. i must say out of what i heard my best of sound at this show was the mr speaker ether, with the cavalli amp. they are a fantastic planar design similar to planars i use in my home speakers. dan hit it out of the park on these. the leading edge transients are pure and defined, great air and detail. the bass was smooth and very controlled. build quality was exellent as well. the cavalli amplifiers are my favorite of the component size amplifiers. i cant choose one i like over the others. can i have one of each please?  as for dap players the ak240 stainless is awesome. my favorite player, fit and finish is absolute first class with a&k.and the queststyle players were exellent as well, a great sounding player for a fair price, my run away winning portable amp was the alo rx! it is made for iem's but drove the audeze el-8 open backs i was using with total ease with lots of power to spare. two thumbs way up. i told mercer about it and he gave it a go. the alo continental was really good too, and looks cool as hell. build quality is first rate. the pedulumic stance are my go-to for wireless sound. what a great bargan. i had used the audeze el-8's for most of my listening both at mike mercers and i's room and at the show. for under a grand they are a sure winner. wonderful sound and first rate build quality all around. these are my go-to headphone for the under a grand, and i need to get a set asap!!  bear in mind i am no mike mercer as far a reporting goes but had to mention this great stuff. warren chi and company did a hell of a good job putting on this event. so a big thanks goes out to them all. it was great to spend time with mike diaz of UE and see what they have going on, as well as mike johnson ( pendelumic mike) dan of mr speaker, owen at astell & kern, russ straton, great to meet scott and harmony hicks. had a great time with michael mercer on the road as usual. looking forward to the next canjam!!!!

  We're all Audio geeks.
But some of us are budget audio geeks.
Can someone compile a list of all the budget gear there for us to get hyped as well?

Don't forget the Echobox Explorer (DAP), which I think is supposed to retail in the $300 range. And the Echobox Finder IEMs, set to go for around $200 (and which I thought were significantly better than the Atomic Floyds).
