I was fortunate enough to have met Oscar in the early 80's when the Canadian distributors of Nakamichi presented him with a gold-plated Nak deck in a Mississauga hotel suite not far from his home. Not only that, after the short presentation and lunch, the five of us gathered around a grand piano with drinks in hand while Oscar tickled the ivorys for us. I'm not a jazz fan, but I could certainly appreciate the talent the man possessed. He was also a real gentleman. RIP Mr. Peterson.
I was fortunate enough to discover his music earlier this year and have had many pleasant evenings with Oscar on the headphone rig. I'll put on one of his discs tonight.

I'm sorry to hear this news. As always when I hear news of this variety, I'll be reaching for something of his from my collection to play next and listen to carefully. I think he would have liked that.
A great musician. After having a stroke he essentially re-learned piano in a way to compensate for loss of movement in his hands. He was one of my first intro's to jazz and I will miss him tremendously.
RIP Oscar, and thank you for much wonderful music.
