Storage capacity. Initially it had only 256mb, later I added a 1gb SD card. I started out with 64k files, the re-ripped to 128k when i got the SD card.

I listen with my ER4Ps on my iPod at 256kbps AAC and I find the sound quite satisfactory.

properly recorded and mastered music with decent compression still sounds very good and even better with good headphones and proper amplification.

All of my music is lossy Flac, the only time when I use them as mp3s are when I gonna use one of them as my cellphone ring tone.

Definitely, yes. My gear isn't good enough to tell the difference between lossy and lossless anyways, so it really doesn't matter. Still can't really enjoy 128k MP3s though.

I chose no. I find myself starting to try to hard to listen to see if I can hear what I maybe missing instead of just enjoying what I'm listening to. I also hook my itouch up to a secondary stereo system I use when working out and just hate the sound of lossy formats through the speakers.

I have 3 TB's of storage so I keep all my music in both flac and apple lossless and just add it to itouch as needed, and don't worry about how much I can fit on it.

Of course. When I got my ECD1 I listened to some good old albums encoded at 128 kbps mp3 with my Staxes. It didn't sound bad. Not at all!

i would have to say yes. Most of the time i cant tell the difference between the two. i prefer the lossless over the lossy but i can enjoy both with my setup

I try very hard to enforce a minimum 192 kbps rule, and i encode everything i rip myself to FLAC and V0 (HDD space is cheap).

But I can't lie - I'm quite capable of enjoying a 128 kbps MP3 on nice headphones. Music is music, after all.
