Can you enjoy lossy (compressed) music through your favorite headphones?

A little OT, but where can you actually purchase or download lossless tracks (.flac)?

Most of the stuff I have is 320 kbps, but I just don't know where I can purchase some.

If you want, you can buy WAV files....it's even better quality.

If I'm listening thru my HD650's or my big 2-channel system, there's no way I can listen to lossy. On my iPod/in the car, sure.

It sure is easier to tolerate in the car.

Well, my answer is YES although it's usually not a concern for me, since I can afford to buy my music from places other than spytunes.

Woud 128 kbps sound bad on Denon AH-D1000's? I'm probably going to get them but a lot of my library is 128 kbps.

Also for all the lossless people, where do you get your music? CD or download?

These comments are a little off topic, I think. Let's talk about what people enjoy or don't enjoy -- particularly with your "favorite headphones" (which is a little bit of a different twist on the issue), and try not to make judgments about others. Otherwise, we'll get diverted pretty quickly.

As for the question, of course I can enjoy lossy. 192kbps is good enough for many tracks.

is it bad that I find it sad that foobar includes an ABX comparator?

I actually read an article today that claimed today's average music consumer actually PREFERS mp3s that are 128k - that the "sizzle" of compression is something these kids find lacking in their music when listened to at higher bitrates / lossless quality.

Of course, I do not. 128k mp3s are highly noticeable to my ears, and I replace these files ASAP.

Although lossless provides that psychological satisfaction of uncompressed audio, I'm happy with 256kbps and up mp3's and most 192kbs mp3's. 128kbs is where it starts to sound noticeably worse.

Absolutely.
