Can you enjoy lossy (compressed) music through your favorite headphones?

Yep, definitely. I listen to compressed music all the time on my itouch.
My itouch and se530s get more use than any of my other gear.

EDIT - ah,missed that "favorite headphone" part. I don't have a favorite, but I do really like the 530s.

I do. For casual listening I think that 320kbps sounds pretty decent, and 256kbps isn't so bad either.

Music's still music, as long as it isn't super staticy or something crazy like that.

320kbps is still doable, but I vastly prefer uncompressed music, even when in the case of the old mono recordings from the 20s and 30s I listen to very much, it doesn't really matter because the sq won't be any good. Strangely, I've come to appreciate uncompressed cracks and hisses as well. Not sure whether that is an entirely good thing.

Yes.

Just depends whether you're listening to music or listening to the technology.

Sound quality is only one factor limiting whether or not I'm enjoying my music.

One of many. And depending on the scenario, it can be more important or less important.

My objective is to enjoy my music, not to obsess over the technology.

in other words if the beat gets your toes tappin' and your blood flowing, its a good time, and who cares if its an 8-track or a $50k transport thats putting the tunes out?

Well like anything else, there's a minimum allowable quality. but it's still a matter of context.

I don't need the ultimate in sound quality if i'm going to be distracted from it anyway.
