Can you enjoy lossy (compressed) music through your favorite headphones?

I can enjoy lossy music, but it does not necessarily mean that I prefer it.

I keep my collection in FLAC for peace of mind, safety and archiving purposes, but I listen mostly to MP3 VBR V0 and Ogg Vorbis q8 and up. Can not tell the difference between my lossy and lossless files after extensive ABXing.

PS: I've seen a lot of misinformation in this thread... For instance, FLAC isn't uncompressed... FLAC is also compressed, but a lossless type of compression.

I can only enjoy live performances and only when seated in anechoic furniture, so i don't know why i'm even here.

yes, they say crap in crap out but good headphones let you extract the most from lossy recordings. This is not the death of head-fi if you change the question to which do you prefer it should be the opposite

The difference becomes apparent for me at 192 Kbps. Anything higher than that is fine and near impossible to find a difference for my ears. And its about half and half at 192, some I can notice, others sound just fine.

I'll put it like this--the 256kbps M4A files you get from iTunes are as good as lossless to me. 128kbps MP3 files, even well-encoded, sound noticeably bad. I'd have to experiment a bit more, but I can definitely hear the differences between 128kbps MP3, 320kbps MP3, and direct from an audio CD.

I can enjoy lossy music, but I prefer lossless.

For instance, I have a few mixes that were originally released on youtube, and the person who made them encoded the separate .mp3 in 96(!)kbps. I still enjoy those mixes (Although sibilance downright hurts on my Q40s) but I would much rather prefer it in lossless, or even 320kbps mp3.

I love V0 format. It's an mp3 but has great bitrate to size ratio.

I can definitly enjoy it if it's V0 or at least decent (200 or lower.. meh) I heard so many presentations today in my class with music downloaded from youtube that the quality was horrible... I couldn't take it.

I sure can, and I do so as well.
Don't mean that I prefer lossy though, as I take lossless every time if I have the option.

If there is a choice, I'd prefer lossless. I have around 70% of lossy music in my collection and 30% of lossless. 30% of my favourite music. Some of it I had in mp3, but later downloaded in lossless.
It is also depends on kind of music you listen to. There is almost NO difference between lossy and not in techno, rave, electro music etc. without vocal parts. But there IS difference in istrumental music, especially in orchestral and symphonic.

MP3s all the way! Imagine how much hard drive space you would need if you were a lossless die-hard :| (I'm sure there are quite a few here on head-fi)
