Frankly, it’s hard for me to say as I never owned them at the same time and so couldn’t do a proper A/B. My *guess* would be I’d prefer the LE to the SE, as I believe the LE uses the updated drivers from the 2020, but it’s hard to know for sure and I’d hate to speculate.how does LE compare to SE?

A distinct machined lid provides a subtle nod to the unique identity of this earphone. Borrowing from the original with the internal acoustic chamber design and a bit from the Solaris 2020 with its exceptional drivers.
thanks, yes, this is referring to the OG, i believe. My recollection is that what makes the SE unique is that the acoustic chamber is ceramic, although i am not sure how that impacts the sonic qualities vs the LE.From description on aloaudio.com:

why did you sell SE / keep LE?Frankly, it’s hard for me to say as I never owned them at the same time and so couldn’t do a proper A/B. I went from SE—>2020–>LE.why did you sell SE / keep LE?
went to the 2020 because:
-fit better (although i can tolerate the larger shells, the 2020 was an easier fit, of course, being ~20% smaller)
-sub-bass hit a harder
-mids a bit more textured/forward
Went from 2020 to the LE for the reasons I stated earlier. The LE has the same drivers as the 2020, with just a larger shell, and since i can tolerate the larger shells, the LE was just an incremental improvement.
The SQ differences between the three are not, in my opinion, all that significant. Each is an incremental improvement over the last, to my ears.

In all seriousness, they are hard to compare, bit I’ll try. From a technicals perspective, the bird is a step ahead in aspects apart from soundstage - I think the Solaris holds its own in that regard. From a tonality perspective:cool, how does the LE compare to the traiilli?
-bird has very good quality and quantity bass for a BA; depending on my mood, I might prefer the 18s or Erlky, but the bird is quite good - very tight and crisp, more sub-bass focused, no bleed into mids. The LE, of course, has a DD, and so a bit like comparing apples to oranges…it is able to move air that a BA can’t physically reproduce
-treble on the LE is smoother to my ear, and not as forward in the presentation as the bird; again, like the bass, it’s a bit hard to compare as they are different drivers…bird’s treble is brighter, as I said, more forward, but not harsh or sibilant
-bird’s mids are dryer, more forward, and a bit more textured than the LE
Look, we’re talking about 2 very different IEMs with different driver set-ups and of course very different price points…I enjoy them both.
Hope this helps a bit.

Undecided of which Solaris to buy. I owned the 2020 and found the treble to be a bit too screechy for me at times but loved the thick midrange and analogue sound.
I’d like to try the Abalone SE or the new Flower Limited Edition. Decisions, decisions…

A breathtaking experience on the Solaris...
I really enjoyed the Final E-Type compared to all other tips with the Solaris. I just got the Spiral Dot+++ in and I am very impressed. More pronounced and natural bass and the instrument timber seems elevated too. Very impressed. Thank you for tipping me off to these!

Jealous of this. I wish I was outside with a beer just relaxing.

The LE sounds like the OG, but more etched/shouty (at least the pair I got to try). Not technical advantage.
The 2020 is worse in pretty much all aspects compared the bigger shelled brothers.
I, myself, prefer the SE overall. Their midrange is to die for and the sound is more even / balanced than the OG (whose mids are more withdrawn). A bit thicker in the mids, but also less energetic in the treble.
I think they are better technically, but the tonality is different enough that some might prefer the OG/LE.
