Hi,

When a model has been discontinued, do the prices drop or rise? I ask because I'm eyeing the Denons D2000 or D5000.

Thanks

Depends on how popular the model was, and who has the final stock. In the case of something like the MDR-SA5000, which were never extremely popular, and which were stocked a lot of places, the price came down off MSRP and in some cases hit rock bottom (they were $700 originally, final selling price on Amazon was around $320). But in the case of the very popular Denon D2000/5000 models, the price will either stay where it's at, or go up, because the replacements are looking like they're not going to be as popular, and a lot of people really like or want the old versions. There are also a lot of less than reputable places who will gladly pick up 10 or 20 pairs of them and charge you double for the experience. :xf_eek:

Guess I'd better pick them up before they become a collector's item.

That would be likely the best option. I think the AH-D2000 are still available on Amazon:

But you can already see the price jumping to $389 from some dealers...good grief. I remember when these were commonly around $200-$250 new.

Got a new pair over mark's summer sale for $269. Had him do the full LA treatment on them. CFW! Anything under $300 NIB seems to be a great deal now. The 5K really seems to be the way to go for the last couple weeks.
