I'm looking for a desktop amp to power my new DT990s (250ohm) with a budget of $100.

The obvious recommendation seems to be the E9, are there alternatives I should check into? Or is the E9 the hands down winner in this category?

The only two other options with positive feedback I've found are the Q2 and Indeed Mk2.

Any information/advice much appreciated.

Schiit Asgard.  Honestly, you won't do much better at that price.

I wouldn't go to say that it's preferred as things seem to be an even 50/split.  There are definitely two camps: the pro-Asgard and the pro-Matrix.   Both are great amps for the money, but the Matrix does improve with some home tweaking, whereas the Asgard isn't open to such tweaks.  I guess it depends on the end-user's approach: to tweak, or not to tweak?  That is the question.

Matrix M Stage tends to be preferred over the Asgard, fwir.
