My friend wants a headphone that sounds good, but doesn't want a headphone that looks weird.
I am assuming that he will not buy a DAC.

Anyone got a suggestion?
I have HD 25-1 II, and it's very uncomfortable to me. Something comfortable would be nice, since he said he wants to listen while studying at college.

He listens to modern music, and a bit of additional bass wouldn't be bad I think.

The Skullcandy RocNation Aviator ( black ) may be something to look into.  They actually sound really good for the price and the styling says student without saying "Hey look at my ridiculous cans."

What does your friend think of your HD-25-1 ii?  Perhaps they will find them quite comfortable.  That would be my next recommendation.

Another option would be the very impressive beyerdynamic DT1350.  They are on-ear and I found them pretty comfortable, but I did not find them more comfortable than the HD-25-1-ii.
