I was just thinking about this combo yesterday. I'm really curious because I see this as an ideal portable setup for me; plus I really enjoy planar headphones. Hopefully in the future I can get a chance to try them out with my AK100II. I also want to try it the AKG K812 also, that is a spectacular set of headphones.
I don't wanna turn this into a oppo forum, But you can't go wrong with the PM-1 with the AK100II combo, Their is also the pm-2 that go for $700,PM-1 won awards and gotten great review's! Well worth the money for AK100II & PM-1,AK100II pushes enough power to drive them so much that certain high res files I have to lower the max volume.

Im unfortunately selling my AK100ii because I need the money for books and other college expenses. Hope to get the AK100ii back or get the AK120ii in the future! Both are excellent players.

So the books and college just came after the 100ii launch and caught you off guard?

What's a safe volume for AK120II and SE846? I am using 42 when outside, 32 in dead quiet surroundings, but worried about long term damage!

Avoid IEM's.
Prefer headphones.
Doctor says.

The SE846 blocks outside noise very well so you don't have to turn up the volume to drown out the noise you would otherwise have with other earphones. Those are reasonable settings. My settings are around 40 and 25 respectively.

lol I use 48 on the AK100II. At 32 it is too low for me. I never used my headphones at max, but my hearing ability has always been weak. I used my iPhone 5S at 60% to prevent hearing damage, which is about 40% of the AK100II but I felt it was a bit too low to fully enjoy.

I was curious about how many people leave their EQ off on the AK100II? I only ask cause when off its more straightforward sound, IAM having a a pain of a time setting it myself to my own likening and always seem to go back to having it off and I know it also depends on the headphones as well..

It depends on the recording volume of your albums and each might varied one from the other.

On listening level, of course your surrounding will also affect how loud you want to listening to your music.

I played around with the EQ and I would only use the PRO setting with certain headphones that I consider bright. Otherwise, I leave it off.

Having my 120ii for three days....there are still some minor different between 240 and 120ii in terms of SQ...the 120ii tends to be a little bit brighter. my 240 give more airy and spacious feeling.
