What's a safe volume for AK120II and SE846? I am using 42 when outside, 32 in dead quiet surroundings, but worried about long term damage!

It's hard to judge base on volume base criteria, but my preference is 25 inside and 33 (max) outside with SE846. To know if is safe level. This is the guide from UE.

90 db- 8hrs
95db - 4hrs
100db - 2hrs
105db - 1hr
110db - 30 mins.

To get a feel of how loud these numbers are, get an SPL meter from Radio Shack and played it on speakers until meter shows these volume, then get a rough volume match on IEM, then look at the volume in AK120ii. That is about how loud you will go with a certain time to avoid hearing issues.

Here is my 2 cents ... Another trick is to learn to listen softly. I find that these needs training as well. The level of softness is more or less proportional to how concentrated your mind is at the moment. After a while, the softness is more desirable than loud volume. The music at that state of mind is able to transmit more meaning and emotions than loud volume. The trick is when your mind is calm to a certain degree, the brain releases endorphins, this makes one feel (high), alert with unbroken attention to your music for a long time without excessive volume. Also at the level of mind state, once can hear alot more than a normal state of mind, hence not a need for loud volume.

I was curious about how many people leave their EQ off on the AK100II? I only ask cause when off its more straightforward sound, IAM having a a pain of a time setting it myself to my own likening and always seem to go back to having it off and I know it also depends on the headphones as well..

THe EQ settings tend to lower the volume by a few DB. Try this, pause the music, then turn on your desired EQ and then increase the volume my 3-4 db, then press play, the main thing is not to let your ear feels the difference in volume and now see if you like it on or off.

this is my setting, difference for me is that when eq is off sounds more like a echo and too much voice forward, with this eq setting, changes the pitch a bit and eliminates to me what sounds like a echo sound, listening it through my Oppo pm1, can here finer details of strings being plucked and deeper lows..

Interesting, but I wonder if the echo you're hearing is due to the recordings you are listening to?

The SE846 blocks outside noise very well so you don't have to turn up the volume to drown out the noise you would otherwise have with other earphones. Those are reasonable settings. My settings are around 40 and 25 respectively.
I am in Hk, so the ambient noise inside and outside is probably far higher than western countries. Lol. Will try to restrict volume levels (AK should really implement a max vol setting, as the touchscreen interface for volume can be quite dangerous if accidentally triggered!)

I'm getting the itch... I'm seriously considering upgrading, love my Rwak120b... even if it's not even 2 weeks old for me yet... But I love the design of the 120ii...so sexy. It's a toss up, between that (rwak for sure) or just going straight to the 240 (rwak), or/and Calyx M just because for some weird reason I want that player. This is craziness.

I am considering a similar move from Dx100 to either rwak120 II or rwak240. I think that rwak120 II would make more sense as I do not plan to listen to many DSD, but I like the rwak240. But is it really worth 1000$ more ?

I feel that bro... I don't mess with DSD either... I just don't want wonder after buying the 120ii, send it to Vinnie, and think if the 240 sounds better. I really like the 120ii,aesthetically so much more, which is another reason why I'm unsure.
