Brand Spanking New A&K AK120II and AK100II

That means the improvement in SQ is due to the balanced output and a better cable than stock IEM cable. But I have about 40 hours of SE usage. I hope after more hours of  break-in, SQ will improve even more.

Anyone noticed that AK100II / AK120II has preloaded with a sample of DSD tracks / Hi-Res tracks?

My AK100II comes preloaded with the demo DSD/hi-rest Flac, unlike the older AK100/120 where the demo tracks are in the 8Gb micro SD card

My AK120 purchased in 2012 was pre-loaded with demo hi-res tracks in it's internal memory. No micro sd card coming with it

AK120 II is here! Loading music was a lot faster than you guys had led me to expect!

Via USB 2.0 I transferred 2.89Gb in 4 minutes and 4 seconds, giving me a net speed of 12,12Mb/s

Via USB 3.0 I transferred 3,25Gb in 4:13, a net speed of 13,15Mb/s

Conclusion: Not super fast, not USB 3.0, but faster than expected!

Good to hear your player has arrived and hope to hear your impressions soon!

I've been transferring whole 20GB chunks of music at a time via USB/2.0 and never really noticed the player being slower than any standard Android device (phone tablet), and all that storage space means no more micro SD cards too :)

I'd agree - file transfer is pretty swift.  I copied like 40GB to the unit in one go without issues via USB 2 (USB 3 kept crashing the unit, but I suspect that it's a bad USB 3 port on my laptop to be honest).

My mistake.
The demo hi-res tracks were also pre-loaded in AK120's internal memory.
The micro SD card containing hi-res tracks was redeemed from AK's booth as I bought the AK120 during Mooks Audio show back in 2012 where AK's reps were present to demo their prototype AK240.

Is that one of those super-thin Linum cables ?  (or whatever they`re called)

Yep - it's actually the new low-ohm prototype, the Linum "Super Bax" (working title...). Here's a shot with the regular Linum Bax, which is quite a bit thinner:

3 hours in with the AK120 II:
Holy hell this thing sounds so CRISP! So clear, detailed and elegant...

Those cables are wild.   Did you re-terminate it to 2.5 yourself?

I bought this Bispa mmcx cable for my JVC iems.  It looks like a miniature STAX cable . . .

Nope, they're 2.5mm TRRS straight from the factory. The owner of Estron (the company that makes the Linum cable) has an AK240, that might be the reason why they offer that option :grinning:

Nice, congrats Sorensiim!  I recall you being a big iBasso fan...does the 120ii better the DX90 by a wide margin (regardless of what criteria you choose to use; e.g., sound/aesthetics/UI/etc.)?

It does indeed beat the DX90 in all categories except value for money. Is it $1300 better or 3 times as good as the DX90? Nope! This is a perfect example of The Law of Diminishing Returns.
