I agree that z1 with stock o amp *may* sound hollow. But this one seems good to me so far... Loving it by the way, especially impressed about how good my budget earbuds sounds with it. Astonishing.

My only gripe now is sub bass roll off. I hope it will get better with burnin
Is the Sub Bass roll off similar to the Walnut? Because I feel that the Z1 has some sub bass roll off but very minimal. I do have the Muses 02 in mine.

Dunno it's been too long I haven't listened to walnut but I think it's not as bad. I'm using burson on the z2 and high end opamp does seems to help with the roll off. I'm only using earbuds so it's not as bad as full size headphones, it's quite bearable to my taste now.

(Don't have the muses02 yet though I feel in love with burson rn maybe it is better fit with akm chip than z1 ess??)

@Frederick Wang Where did you get the op amp from? I checked around eBay, other than the Chinese sellers, the only Korean one with price even more expensive than muses02? (I think is more appropriate to bring the discussion back here).

Yes.
This is known for Z1, the USB input only accepts 16bits/48Khz.
This limitation is only for the USB DAC input, not for the microsd card files.

I think it should be the same in Z2, but I don't have it.
Try foobar with WASAPI output, you'll have to resample everything to 48Khz and use 16bit output, other USB DAC modes are not supported with Z1.
EDIT: You can use foobar options DSP real time resampler.

Z2 runs on 16 bit / 48 000 Hz as USB DAC

I get them from Tmall (the fancy part of taobao...), the price I paid was higher than MUSES02

aside from their design and circuitry differences, V2, V2s, Z1, Z2 all have 100ohm output impedance, which causes sub-bass roll off.
