For the people thinking about killing their wallet on some Triports, lets help them out here.

While I certainly haven't heard all headphones out there, the closest sound I can find to Triports (and it may even be better) is Senn Hd 497's.

Bose Triports $150.00
Senn HD 497's $60.00

Next question???

P.S. I could never understand the "head squeeze" thing with HD 497's. I find them incredible comfortable. The subjective "better comfort" of the Triports ain't worth no $90.00

Well I never thought that my Senns gripped that much... but after trying the DT880 I can say that the HD555 do grip quite a lot.

I would still say they are comfortable though (just not as comfy as the Beyerdynamics)

The local starbucks had a Bost Triports display with an XM radio. I gave them a spin; they are definitely well suited as cappucino cups for your guests; just please don't plug them into anyhing that produces sound.

That and it's crap. Do you really want a company like bose to be a sponsor?

I really don't know.. They have a ginormous marketing budget which would help Head-Fi out quite a bit.. And with Bose popping up in the Google ads all the time, why not?

I can see it now, a Triforce HF-1!

That depends! I wouldn't mind Bose financing Head-fi's activities/operations. We can severely chastise their production line as well as take their money.

How long have you had your senns for? I found it takes a good 2-3 months of solid wearing to get them all cumfy and remove the death grip. Or chuck them on a pile of books, I did that my with 650's when I got them but now regret that since I would rather have broken them in with my head width.

"Triport® Tactical Headset

Military studies show that reducing noise improves mission effectiveness. As maneuvers involving light/wheeled armored vehicles increase in number, the ability to communicate intelligibly within them becomes more and more important.

Building on more than ten years’ experience in providing CVC headsets for tank and tracked vehicle applications, Bose introduces the TriPort® tactical headset. Designed specifically for use in wheeled armored vehicles such as the M-1114 “up armored” HMMWV “Humvee” and Stryker, this active noise reduction headset offers the following features and benefits:

Features and benefits

Full-spectrum noise reduction
Proprietary technologies allow a narrow profile earcup with full-spectrum noise reduction. The technology in Acoustic Noise Cancelling® headsets reduces environmental and mechanical ambient noise significantly, increasing safe exposure time more than tenfold over that provided by passive headsets.

Comfortable fit
Narrow-profile earcups allow a comfortable fit with many infantry helmets. In addition, the TriPort® tactical headset is up to 33% lighter than conventional noise reducing tactical headsets. The proprietary, ergonomic design of the earcushions and the internal earcup volume ensure good fit over a wide range of head and ear sizes.

Talk-through capability
This user-selectable, binaural feature permits monitoring of the ambient sound environment. Crewmen can disconnect from the vehicle intercom system and communicate with other crewmen standing nearby or listen for threats—without removing their helmets. Internal circuitry prevents transmission of extremely loud noises, protecting the user.

Compatibility with NBC protective equipment
The TriPort® tactical headset may be operated with NBC (Nuclear-Biological-Chemical) protective masks, allowing the user to realize the benefits of clearer audio and noise reduction even in NBC environments.

Flexible boom microphone
The flexible boom allows easy, precise adjustment and may be mounted on the left or right earcup, depending on user preference. The modular design of the cable / boom microphone assembly facilitates field replacement and adaptation to different intercommunications systems.

One of these many "Bose sucks" threads should just be made into a sticky, already.

I have had the 650s since early december, although i didn't wear them for last week of 05 and the first week of 06. I've tried breaking them in on the writings of Martin Luther, David M. Kennedy and The Chicago Manuel of Style (for several days and nights); and each time they go back to the death grip after a few days.
Of Bose: sennheiser doesn't sponsor head-fi either, although Bose would probably have more money. I've listened to the QC2 and the Triports-they are comfortable but cheaply built and don't sound good in relation to the amount that they cost. I'm more annoyed at the people who view them as a type of social indicator. Sadly, i think the QC2 might be the only decent and comfortable active noise canceling headphone. I'm not entirely sure why in the apple and amazon pages devoted to the triports the anti-bose people love the HD280s so much, as if sennheiser made no other models.

The best equivalent to the Bose Triport I have found is the Senn HD 201.

They both feel very comfortable, similar type of padding, similar size, weight, and noise isolation. But that's where the similarities end.

The Triport is not a bad product (i have heard worse headphones), and doesn't sound too bad... but at $150 it is a serious rip-off. The Triport can't handle high volumes, starts distorting like crazy as soon as you raise the bass, and worst of all: they break easily. It is a major issue with the Bose Triport. Owners complain the headband snaps like a toothpick within weeks of usage. And the cable is so thin it tends to snap also when it is accidentally pulled.

On the other hand, the Senn HD 201 makes the Triport headphones sound like the iPod earbuds in comparison. The HD 201 have a radically better range, a much better construction (rugged, better built), and the sound quality that is a characteristic of Sennheiser products. It handles bass wonderfully, leaving the Bose headphones way, way behind.

Best of all, the HD 201 costs LESS THAN $20. Seriously, there is no contest here:

- Bose Triport, crappy, $150
- Senn HD 201, amazing, $18

There's not even a contest here.

For more info on the HD 201, check out this very thorough review:

Enjoy!
