TravelLite,
I'm not sure how different it is in different places, but generally you have to jump three times with the parachute pulled right when you leave the plane, before getting to actually skydive by yourself? I also thought of doing tandem, but i want to jump alone some day.

Sentral Dogma, in general I think a tandem first jump is really the way to go for 95% of interested folks.

It involves much less ground training and allows the average student-passenger to more fully appreciate and enjoy the experience simply by taking a lot of the "pressure" off.

The USPA.org site talks a little about the various methods, AFF, tandem, and static-line. Any are suitable for a first jump, but only AFF and tandem allow an individual to experience the "skydive" or freefall component of a jump on their very first exit.

BTW, there's nothing even remotely "sissy" about a tandem jump. ;-) Definitely a very high "wow-factor" coefficient, LOL.

i go through the "Grand Central Funk" stage now and then...in my case however music plays an increasingly important roll in therapy to soothe my weary soul and judging by the increasing amount of listening i do, i get the feeling GCF is catching up to me or music is less effective for therapy...what ever the case i can't imagine getting bored with music...

Something i've always wanted to do is glider flying and or hand gliders...you can soar around among the clouds for long periods of time to wash away the dirty grime of life's troubles but one must consider a seriously troubled mind is not safe thing when you need to concentrate on flying safety...

Whenever I feel like life's lost some edge, I take a nice, long bikeride to the top of a hill around the village (Wisconsin's got some beautiful hills, especially in corn season!) and watch the sunset. Absolutely beautiful, the oranges, purples, blues, and everything in between!

Also, essential reading is Thorton Wilder's play Our Town. Helps to soak in the beauty of just living -- it takes life to love life.

Yes it would, if you are feeling depressed and losing interest in things that make you happy. Any reputable physician will also recommend that one sees a therapist/counselor if he/she does prescribe meds. Meds are only part of the solution, and counseling does help a lot if one can develop a good relationship with their therapist. I am speaking as both a health-care professional and patient.

well i hope all this info re: depression and therapy is able to help someone. i think a lot of good stuff has been said here.

however, none of this applies to me necessarily. I'm just unable to go farther with this hobby, and since i can't use my Open cans, I'm getting bored with the hobby and my current CDs...I wasn't trying to say I'm depressed. In a few weeks all my stress will be gone, decisions made...so I'll be home free and hopefully able to relax.

Nanahachi,

I have felt the way you do several times. In my situation, I get all caught up about the gear and become so anal about it, that I lose the desire to listen completely. Also, no one else in my household and few of my friends give a crap about my hobby, so I find it is a lonely planet. I agree too, that sometimes in audio the excitement comes from the "next purchase", the thrill of the hunt if you will. I have found a few things that have really helped stem the feeling of boredom:

Don't feel bad about the fact that you are bored. Just quit listening for a while. When you are ready you'll go back. Just don't feel guilty about it.

Don't listen with a critical ear. Just put on some tunes--even on the old clock radio--and soon you may find your foot tapping and your head bobbing.

If you aren't already, get into vinyl. Go buy a cheap turntable and phono and then find some LP's you want to try. Don't concern yourself with the surface noise or the clicks and pops, just spin them and enjoy. Collecting vinyl is a whole lot more fun than CD, and sometimes they sound amazing!

These are some things that have worked for me. Hang in and good luck...

There's one thing that solves this problem...

GO SEE THE REAL THING!

I could've upgraded my audio setup a LOT, but I decided to get a ticket subscription to the Hollywood Bowl.

I have no regrets whatsoever.

My favorite japanese song currently is Bump of Chicken - Sailing Day. I love the drummer's drumming.. And Japanese anime has a lot of good songs too.

And the best part: even if the lyrics are crap, who cares cuz the music sounds good!

Wow, you a fan of Onitsuka Chihiro? Im a big fan of hers too. The album Insomnia still ranks as one of the best albums ive listened to, even though its just mp3s. Well, I listened to Chihiro, during my depression moods my last year in high school. Her music is extremely helpful when im in a downed mood.

Other indie bands you might like: Bugy Craxone, and The Back Horn. you will find their mp3s on SoulSeek (the best p2p program with loads of indie japanese music/ mainstream included).

I dont listen to BoA though.

People always think that just because something doesn't feel good that it isn't real. We are advertised happiness every which way we look, and when we aren't feeling so good, the constant bombardment of fake happiness makes us feel outcast and drives us deeper into the "depression". So what's the answer? Happiness advertisers would say, "Buy/believe/take this and you will be happy." People trying to console you will say: stay active, find new things to do, don't think about it(it kinda helps). I say, revel in this feeling, bathe in it, drink it, breathe it. Use it to find some truth. Its the only thing that matters.

oh and IMHO, Pills will never cure anything. I think they're just another sell from a happiness advertiser/dealer. You can't know true happiness without knowing true sadness. You can't know enjoyment without boredom. yin and yang, man. Both are true, but not without the other.

Thanks.

Well, the link here still works:http://www.slsk.org/download.html. I do understand if the site wants to keep it in control.

I gotta agree with Sentral Dogma here.

I get bored of the things I normally do. Sometimes that is how I find new things to do. But often it turns out to be a regroup of the things I have always liked to do. Kinda like cleaning out the attic.
I have been known to have days of depression. I like them. Sometimes I will wallow in my depression for 3 or 4 days. But, usually 2 days is more than enough. I always feel so good after a depression.

Pissed off with everything at the moment, not just music, but I think it's a mixture of being dumped and mid life crisis and a lack of exercise.

Hope it's all a passing phase otherwize I'm ****ed if I don't enjoy my music anymore

williamgoody,
The fact that you even asked in a public forum if you should see a physician, I have to answer an emphatic YES. Thanks for your courage in asking, that's refreshing. These meds take several weeks to reach full potency, so don't be discouraged. Also, different people react differently to different meds. You may not like the first brand you try, it *may* take some experimentation. This is a very frustrating problem with the new meds, but no way around it. This sucks if you need immediate relief. Try to stay near loved ones in the interim and hang in there!

Another thing to consider about these meds (which in general are NOT addictive, although there are sometimes *withdrawl* effects if you stop taking them suddenly), is that they aren't like antibiotics or interferon or whatever that actively works to eat up the disease or kill the cancer. You can take them forever and never be "cured" of underlying condition. They treat your symptoms only. Good luck!

Mark
