Anyone else feeling bored with life, bored with their hobbies, bored with music? I've been losing interest in most things lately. Maybe its the stress, or maybe the honeymoon period is over, and the "wow" factor gone.

Headphones are of course one area that really doesn't wow me anymore. My resources are limited, and I spend no time at home using my cans. Rather, I only listen at work, and I haven't moved beyond my CD1700s (and have been unable to find or justify buying "better" closed cans...which seem few and far between in any case). I never got my hands on HP-1000s, haven't found K1000 at a decent price, and really don't desire much more than that.

I've buying and borrowing CDs like mad, in an attempt to hear new music, to get excited about something "new." It's only partially succeeding.

While there is a lot to be thankful for, I've found little to be excited about. Bummer

Joey

Hang in there man. I can't say that I am "bored" with the whole headphone hobby, but I am at a point that I am satisfied. I have kept the headphones that I enjoy listening to the most and got rid of the rest. I've rediscovered my speaker rig (thanks a lot drewski/tuberoller

) and am having a good time tweaking it. Maybe it's just time to step back for a while and reevaluate exactly what it is that you are looking for in audio. I know for a long while the HP-1000's have been your "Holy Grail" and the frustration of not finding them at a reasonable price may be contributing to your frustration with the hobby.....and ultimately with the music.

I go through phases...

I've listened to my RS1s for no more than an hour in the past week... just don't feel the need, or the want... yet there will be other weeks that you'd have to kill me to prise them off of my head...

I know how you feel though, sometimes it all feels just a bit too bleurgh

Stick in there though, you'll come out of the other side of this depression feeling better than ever

Do a week long fast from headphones and music, then start back up again. My ears starting ringing kinda bad recently, and I thought it was the Creek doing it, so I stopped listening for about 10 days. When I popped my first disc in and listened I was wow'd all over again. Even with the little cheapo Creek I was just totally blown away with how good the music sounded.

Hang in their buddy! You can pull thru this. There is a bright side: at least you have your gear on hand to be bored with. My amp and new cans are sitting several thousand miles away calling my name. I find myself hoping for an excuse to fly home for a week or two so I can load up the new stuff and bring it down.

Bored with music? Go to some live shows, or even pick up whatever instrument you haven't touched since high school - do something to remind yourself that music is alive and isn't locked away in flat plastic discs.

Plan B: Hike out somewhere remote for a weekend. Find somewhere quiet, or with running water. Bring ramen and a book. Chill out, don't worry or even think about things.

Actually, two of my favorite bands...Prozac and Buspar have left me feeling a bit bored lately.

Seriously, I am going through a meds change and not much is holding my interest lately...except that Springsteen is in town...and the shows are definately lifting the boredom veil.

On a serious note, do these meds help? I find myself in the same situations many, many times. I have great gear and a good selection of music and whatnot, but when I get home I just feel like sitting there, just waiting to go to sleep, a lot of times.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I have to say more friends in San Francisco are on one of them (or recently were) than aren't. The general consensus is definitely yes, but you have to find which to minimize the side effects (libido, etc.).

Maybe not wise, but I met a girl in a bar (who happened to be connected to medical world) and she gave me two Zoloft sample packs (around 72 days worth) when I mentioned an interest. A little debate how long it takes to maximize the benefits, but it definitely had impact. In my case the highs and lows were both cut of, so disadvantages there, but others have different responses. Certainly worth a try.

Related- I found a bigger impact though when I stopped taking in nearly all sugars & carbs.

I know a bunch of people who've tried one or another of them and the answer is, yes, they helped just about everybody. But for some people side-effects were a problem. Side-effects seemed to range from none-at-all to completely-intolerable, though most people seem to find some medication where the side-effects are at worst pretty mild.

Depends on which bars you go to.

I believe a doctor is required for them all (someone correct me if I'm wrong), but it's pretty simple and general practitioners, etc. can prescribe. They'll probably ask a question or two about sleep patterns. You can even express direct interest. Pretty mild stuff.
