Blur Earbuds Lovers

I can't wait for my first Blur to arrive - it has left Singapore but no other update as to where it is yet, I expect at least another week before it lands - painful waiting! My curiosity to explore buds almost got the better of me earlier when I nearly bought the Fiio EM5 - available locally on Amazon, I could have by Monday - good reviews but I noted quite a few negative comments in the Buds thread.

I really think you need to hold off until your Blurs arrive. See how you get on and then consider exploring further...be warned though you're entering close to/at the top of the bud game!

I appreciate money doesn't grow on trees but if you ever have some money aside to further invest to support the bud route, get a Little Dot1+, they're cheap as chips. I can help advise re tubes and opamps. It would limit you to a bedside table / dekstop but the 150ohm and the Wraith (that I hope you get one day ) scale very, very well.

Keep us updated :)

Edit: if you're thinking of further Blur purchases, don't let me delay you. Lol!

The Little Dot route sounds interesting but more complex than my tired brain can comprehend right now, a rough week at work!

No better Friday night therapy though than to consider my next Blur, before my first even arrives - what do you suggest?!

Ofcourse, no hurry. When it comes to it, I'll do my best to make it simple. I have two opamps and two different tubes that I switch depending on mood - one offers intimacy, the others more technical, slightly brighter and more expansive. Don't worry about that for now though.

That's a tough one really...the MX150 sits in the middle of all my Blurs in terms of tonality so you could go either way. Brighter towards the more vocal centric Beautiful Witch or more analogue, richer and better timbre of the Wraith. Or forward to the MX64 STE if you want warmer vocals / instruments than the Beautiful Witch that aren't as forward.

Then there are the one's I haven't heard. Many users love the PK32 New Line and now Wong has the vocal centric model he started making a few days ago thats leaner, cleaner and less forward than the MX64 STE (I imagine!)

Thanks, yes you of course have me curious on the amps/tubes! A conversation for another day for sure.

I like the sound of Wraith - also like the idea of having the OFC cable to differentiate from the other... plus the black shells and cable look great. I might just pop a message to Wong on it.

Though if they become a sub €200 Traillii killer, I'm quitting Head-Fi :)

I was about to say, personally I would go for the OFC PK150 Wraith. You'll get to try the PK shell and you'll have a warmer and slightly more organic tuning than the MX150 Retune. However, you may need more power as the Wraith is harder to drive than the MX150 (despite the same impedance), so maybe wait to see how your DAPs drive the MX150 and then make an order, OR order something with a lower impedance like the MX64 STE (with OFC cabling) or something else on the recommendation of the other lovely people here.

As for whether they can be a Traillii killer, well that's probably down to personal taste, but the experience I've just had with the Wraith running through an amp is unmatched to my ears. The Wraith has better timbre than Traillii, easily. Certainly a smaller stage, but if you're listening to any sort of instrumental performance the Wraith will make it sound more realisitic, organic and emotional.

I should add, and I mention this in the review, the Wraith has the best male vocals I've heard from any transducer.

Also, while you wait for your Blurs to arrive have a read of this great post by @WoodyLuvr about flathead earbuds - if you haven't already ofcourse!

Yeah maybe best not risk Wraith until I've tried the first.

Sounds amazing what you are describing anyway with regards to Wraith. Tongue in cheek when I say Traillii killer, I know each has their own use case.

I've dropped a note to Wong to ask his opinion. I think for my next, I would like one suited towards more lively electronic music - synths, drums machines etc - music that currently shines on IE900.

Thanks for you help as always!

That's probably best - I'm sure he will have some words of wisdom. As for lively electronic music out of my sets I'd pick the Wraith (despite the subbass rolling off somewhat) and the PK White Face (no longer in production). I've heard great things about the PK32 New Line with electronic music.

Lets see what Wong says.

And you're welcome!

I actually found this set of iAudio buds recently, they would have been supplied with one of my Cowon iAudio players from the early 00s. I'm trying them now and even without foam tips, I'm absolutely getting the appeal - I love the airy sound and sense of hardly feeling them in my ears... they actually sound very good. Funny to think this was the form factor for all of my earphones many moons ago - great to become reacquainted and start a new journey.

Have you listened to a Loxjie P20, Fully Balanced Tube Hybrid Amp?

Wong suggested 266 pk32 for faster electronic music. Sounds like that'll be #2 Blur...
