Blues & Jazz -- Best Headphones?

I'd recommend against the AT AD900 for blues, though they are good for jazz. For blues, i recommend the Grado 225, 325, or RS2.

Coltrane and Miles Davis are just fine. They are both very much on the list I posted.

I like them both on my K271 MKII's. :)

Also try Coltrane when he was working with Monk. Very nice, in particular live recordings like the Carnegie Hall record. Others may see it differently.

I have to say the 70x is just terrific for me with blues and particularly with jazz. It's like they developed the 70x just for having Miles and Coltrane in mind. I have all kinds of blues, blues rock, jazz, fusion and the AKG does them all justice. Just be sure you properly amp them. Is it all hyperbole? Maybe. But they really are nice with what you listen to. :)

80 - 90% of my listening is blues and jazz and I feel that my HD600s have served me very well when mated with the Little Dot II that I once owned and with the Woo Audio WA6 that I use now.  Unlike many folks here I have not listened with numerous 'phones so I can't say that the HD600s are best.

The main reason I joined the site was to get an idea of how the K702/701 upgrade would work for me. I may be over thinking but to me that’s part of the fun of this.

So far I get the idea that HD650/600 and K702 are both great for jazz. I tried the K701 in a store not too long ago and I have not listened to the HD650 but I keep reading about the word 'veiled'. I still have not figured that out, nor how that would translate to my listening habits.

I hope both are OK with a GS-1 amp.

My GLite is the baby brother of the GS-1 and it's terrific with both the 650 and 70x. You're more than all set. :)
