Is anyone else sick of blue LEDs being used on just about everything? More specifically, piercingly bright, light-a-dark-room blue LEDs, or, for that matter, black-on-deep-blue-background or deep-blue-on-black-background displays?
A few manufacturers have at least acquired a semblance of clue - my recent Shuttle box and my ViewSonic LCD, while still afflicted with blue power indicators, are at least toned down enough to not be distracting. On the other hand, my folks have Samsung LCD panels, and they have a blindingly bright blue LED behind the power switch that shines through a small gap between the switch and the monitor housing. A computer case I use for a MythTV box has what would be a nice temperature readout, but I had to tape over it because of the #^%#$! evil blue background. A Tripp-Lite UPS has a blue-on-black voltmeter, but at least they were merciful enough to provide a brightness control. Then there's the bright blue ring on my Sansa - needless to say, I've told Rockbox to shut the damn light off immediately.
The real problem is that the eye doesn't focus well on deep blue light - or violet, for that matter, so the light or display appears fuzzy from a distance, even with otherwise perfect vision (corrected or not).
Builders - choose a better color, especially for displays that are meant to be read. If you MUST use a blue power indicator, at least tone it down so it doesn't light the room.
