I decided to get the Beyerdynamics DT880 but don't know which version (250ohm or 600ohm) is best for my DAC/amp.  I have the Peachtree Nova.  Specifications for the headphone amp section (from Peachtree's website):

Regardless of what 'kind' or amp, so long as they are adequately driven, I don't think you'll find many (if any) who having heard both, prefer the 250 ohm.
(Long sentence meaning...) Get the 600 ohm. Generally speaking, the highs are less strident and the bass is a bit more pronounced.

More than sufficient for the 600 ohms.

Agreed (and the mids aren't as recessed). Someone should really make a sticky for new beyer owners to ONLY buy the 600 ohm versions.

Agreed. This is what makes Beyers special - the 600 ohm versions are all (770, 880, and 990) definitely better sounding.

i came from the 250 ohm version of the dt880, and i find the 600 ohm versions to be better in sound quality. unless you can get the 250 ohms on a very big discount...

Im sure the differences are subtle but go with the 600 ohm version unless you can find the 250ohm for much cheaper.

The differences are not subtle, for me the DT880/600s are great cans and the DT880/250s are "meh". I've owned both.
 
I would hold out for the 600 ohm versions...don't make the same mistake I did...and then sell off the 250s at a loss to get the 600s.

Did you use them from the same equipment. Are you sure the differences weren't due to the amp driving different impendences differently. From what I have read all the versions share the same basic sound signature and have very similar FR graphs. There might be minor differences but I doubt they are going to be a whole different phone. Sorry for the skepticism but people here exaggerate stufff all the time.  For example the DT250-80 and DT250-250 (they sounded almost exactly the same to me but people claim the 250 ohm version is so much better).

Same equipment...see my sig for what I'm using. The 250s were too "U" shaped for my liking and the treble was overly "tin" like. The 600s had more pronounced mids (though still slightly recessed) and the treble was not as tin-like (though at times could still be, but not as much).
 
I'm not saying that the 250s = bad and the 600s = good, but for the rather small amount of extra cash (likely less than 50 bucks), I would stick with the 600 ohm version.
