Beyerdynamic Xelento!

What cable were you using with the Xelento? The stock veils it. A high quality silver cable upgrade will do wonders for the Xelentos sound. Plussounds silver+gold x with eletech baroque eartips is hard too match price wise and comfort wise.
I use a custom cable from local cable builder which consist of center layer of gold and 6N SPC shielding. Honest to god I don't believe it's a real gold but it does sound great. Thicc, tubey, and still got some good extension on both end.
Furutech 4.4 and silver MMCX.

I find Xelastec 2 really complement Xelento, it has good bass and suppress the glare a bit.

It does sound good with better cable and termination.

Wear and Tear? or Rust?

Hi, I bought my pair of Xelento in Apr. 2020 and it is now more than 4 years. I used it quite often in the first 2 years but then less. I always put it in the box Beyer gave when not using it. I think the longest time I did not use it was about 6 months until I recently used them again and found black dots on the body (see picture below), which look like rust. Would like to check here if you have had the same issue after a few years.

I bought mine 5-6 years ago. The only problem I've had is the cable turning yellow, but nothing on the earpieces themselves.

Even the black part with the logo in the centre seems like it's coming off, no?

Thanks for sharing. My cable is turning yellow too. This makes me wonder if it is because of the humidity in Singapore. The sound does not change though.
I’ve noticed the cable of the new xelento 2nd is more affected by the sun-rays than the old cable for xelento 1st, all my old cables are fine with no sunfade at all ( but really i didn’t used them outside home ( using always -the neckband outside - ). The new cable for gen 2 is really very sensitive to the sun, my neckband was sunfade very quickly ( I’ve sent it back for some issues and just got one new as replacement, one month ago. used very rarely and even in this case I’ve got the plastic in the same state like ghuawh iems , only 2 weeks after received, maybe I’ll share some picture to show you.

All these marks when it wasn’t used for long ( only 1 week outside home and never used after )

It was parking in safe place as you can see

In the picture below you can see the cable starting the yellow sunfade at the ends ( connectors side ) this is cable stock for 2nd gen.

also the wear and marks on the old xelento, because i’ve used them all the time, i have 4 new xelento 1st never used and in perfect state after all these years no marks due the time or any. The cable of the news is weaker.

But the two iem are very different and pleasant, i enjoy them both and use them every day, the days i use the 2nd and 1st the nights.

Thank you orwa. I never used them outside but indeed the cables are fragile. Good news is that we can always change a new cable, but unfortunately the bad news is that the wear marks on the earpieces are permanent and I have no choice but to bear with it in the future. Should the earpieces at this price range have such a durability issue (and in fact I used them with great care)?

Are there any reputable stores still selling gen 1 Xelentos?

Guys if you have any access to a PEQ, try this with the Xelento OG.
Their driver is of an amazing quality and takes everything with ease, with no distortions.
I'll make sure to try it. In the mean time, I've playing with a version of Dolby headphone virtualization which tries to imitate listening to speakers in front of you with stereo sources. And the results are really convincing IMO. Especially with movies. I can't go back to watching movies without it. If anyone's interested, I can send the how-to.

Quick question for Xelento owners.
What other cables do you use (except the stock one) that can bring slight improvements to the sound?
With the stock cable, while the sound is extremely clear and detailed, I find it lacking a bit of emotion, especially for the vocals.
Or this is just simply the Xelento's signature?

No, It can definitely be opened up furrher. My Goto for the Xelento is the Liquid Links Wetlake or Evua. I have pretty much just stuck with the Westlake for the last few months. It's a thicker cable but still flexible and pliable, looks great with the Xelento and brings better separation in lower end and fills out the midrange. https://www.mestudiobiz.com/products/liquid-links-westlake

What blew me away, however was pairing the Xelnto up to the iBasso DC Elite. I'm a DAP guy never a dongle guy - but the Elite has changed that. The Xelentos are completely transformed with the DC Elite. The soundstage widens, and the whole sounscape gets way better resolution.
