Thanks. Definitely a bit of a shame for those who value the old Beyer tuning but still. Maybe the revival of "bright" headphones will be the next big trend :L3000:
I can appreciate both sides of the fence on this particular issue - I like some aspects of the original Beyer "house sound" myself, but I also appreciate the direction that it has taken with its recent products. It would have been a good middle ground if they were also working on a T3, with a tuning that is more in line with its storied past; a musical, treble-oriented headphone. Oh, well, time will only tell. :)

T5p gen 1... Brand new or used? Because the gen 1 hasn't been available for purchase for many of years.

Jaben has Beyerdynamic T5p 1st Generation for sale right now:

Beyerdynamic T5p 1st Generation Portable Audiophile Stereo Headphones
https://store.jaben.com/collections/headphones/products/beyerdynamic-t5p

So I would think they are the same ones being given free with purchase of the 3rd Gen T5.

Too bad I've already hit my September allocation limit for headphone purchasing; I almost made it a full week into the month this time.

It is a brand-new month after all... so a brand-new headphone should get the month rolling. ;)

On to the treble, and this is where things start to get contentious. Gone are the infamous treble peaks that caused the T5p (2nd Gen) to, at times, appear overly harsh and sibilant. The highs are a lot smoother now; it has good control and a dash of brilliance. However, the airy presentation of the previous model has been axed in favor of a relatively subdued region. For those who enjoy the treble delivery of the T5p (2nd Gen), you won't enjoy the 3rd Gen's take.
Saw this review that seems to have an opposite view of the treble.

https://majorhifi.com/beyerdynamic-t5-third-gen-review/

" I was very surprised by the expression of highs in the T5. They’re full and pushed a little more forward than usual. The highs lift the mids up and add a twinkling tonality to clean electric guitar performance or piano ballad"

I guess this only solidifies my view that one has to actually audition headphones in order to really know what's going on. Yet so difficult to do so nowadays unless you actually commit to buying.

That would be welcome, though I find nearly all of the Major HiFi reviews inaccurate and not very helpful, alas.

Major HiFi? I stopped watching his crap after first time. He bashed a headphone big time while it's one of the most popular and beloved HP.
I can't take that kid seriously anymore.

Agree! Already a week after launch a lot of people are busy trying to find the fault of the new T5.3 and T1.3. Most of the people who has actually listened to them (T1.3 and T5.3) seems to like them. Then some speculative home-made measurements show up and people trust them blindly. I will let my own ears be the judge.

Yes, I totally agree - despite how established a reviewer is, there is no better judge of a headphone and/or IEM's characteristics and qualities than your own ears. :)

With that said, if the reviewer was comparing the 2nd and 3rd Generation models together, the latter certainly cannot be said to be a brighter headphone. The treble on the latest revision has adequate sparkle and control, but it definitely lacks the air and sizzle of its predecessor. The highs are well-defined, yes, but certainly less prominent, with less grain across the top.

Any chance of a comparison to Focal Elegia?
Funny, that was the other contender for my $ this month - several clearance deals were offered, but then I saw complaints about Focal not servicing owners of the Elegia that had their headband break - apparently it does it even if careful to not do it.

I'd been watching several headphones from Focal for a while, but the more I dug in I found drivers failing - some getting a few replacements, on their 3rd. So, I've backed off desiring Focal for a while, until I see them make good with the head-fi'er's with broken headbands and fix them. Focal won't even fix it if you offer to pay, that kind of did it for me.

No matter how good a Focal headphone sounds I'm not equipped to replace the band myself even if I could get parts. I finally responded to one plea for help and tried to alert @FocalOfficial, but no response yet:

I ended up getting Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Copper headphones instead, so glad I did, the new T5 and T1 look awesome too... or maybe the Amiron Home will get a next-gen treatment?... :)
...I've already spent my allocation for September on a Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless and I'm so happy I bought it!

Maybe next month another Beyerdynamic Headphone... or...? :)
