Beyerdynamic T5 (3rd Generation)

These Yaxi pads fit the T5p (2nd Generation), so I assume that they'll fit the new T5, too. :)
Damn.... I didn't see the compatibility on these. Ordered some brainwavz, so I'll see how those do before I bite on the Yaxi's.

Otherwise, I put the stock pads and baffles back in my gene T5 with EQ and it gets much better. Using Oratory's settings for the gen 3 with the stock setup since there is no preset for the gen 2(aka baffles out gen 3) and I don't know what I'm doing with EQ enough to EQ when the baffles are out..

Stock, I find the T5 just to dull in the details, which is a shame because it is very capable.

Will do more a/b testing with the Noire :)

thanks for the heads up on the pads!

I've changed the pads to a set of Dekoni sheepskin (with the new attachment lip) and have been testing the T5 vs the Focal Celestee on both a Lake People RS-08 and Audio-gd Master 19.
Both present the music in a different way and both have their strengths and weaknesses compared to each other. The Celestee has the deep slam, but the T5 has more overall bass presence. Celestee is narrow while the T5 is large. Celestee has more details in the treble, while the T5 is smoother and provides a more laid-back presentation that doesn't fatigue. Celestee is more natural though.

With EQ both can be shaped into very capable and enjoyable headphones at which point I give the T5 the upper hand.

Which one do I keep? I'm torn. The Celestee leaks less, though I trust Beyerdynamic a bit more in having spare parts down the road. Resale value of the Celestee seems to be a bit higher while the original asking prices for both is about the same. The T5 has a lot of potential but in stock form has more flaws (pads and frequency response).

I'd keep the T5 because the spare parts are already available. You're from the Netherlands too and I checked them myself when I was curious if there are anything new in the spare parts section. Even available for T1 3rd. The T5 has a lot of potential? Then it's set.

Beyerdynamic definitely keeps spare parts for their headphones available for a very long time, especially for the TOTL models of course, but also the Pro models. A friend of mine had his original T5p repaired recently, many years after the model has been discontinued. A cup was cracked, the pads worn out and a cable connection showed intermittent failure. Long out of warranty the repair at Beyerdynamic cost around 150€ if I remember correctly.

I think the availability of spare parts and repairability is an often overlooked asset that many manufacturers ignore completely... which is unfortunate. I only know of Beyerdynamic and Shure offering extensive long-term support, and with Beyerdynamic every part is available, even the drivers, for do-it-yourself repair. I started pushing them to offer repair guides online... like AIAIAI does, where the modular TMA-2 system offers benefits of part availability by concept.

Long story short, I wish more manufacturers would care for the long-term usability of their products. And not by just offering new models (that will be replaced a year later). Looking at you, Hifiman...

Exactly. Not only this, but most of their models have interchangeable pads, and there are tons of very affordable aftermarket options. It's nice to redo your product lines...but I support the continuity Beyer offers. I think that they should still fix some of the

€150 is near the price of 2 Celestee pads 😭

This is why I cast certain headphones out of consideration (like the Denon 9200). Paying top dollar for headphones, and then shelling out ridiculous sums for earpads is just crappy design. Sure, at TOTL level...you can create hand-stitched bespoke pads, but this is just excessive for most cases. I would definitely vote for the Beyer, also because the larger soundstage really lends itself to electronic music (like Lake People...the artist not the amp ;) ) that is mixed in a more contemporary style beyond basic stereo mixing. If you take the baffles out of the T5, or EQ, the details jump right back up to where they should be on a Beyer headphone.

These are some of the factors that are swaying me to the Beyer over the DCA Noire, but the latter is so goddam comfortable with good quality and quantity of bass, and such a nice folding design it is hard. If I didn't listen to so much electonic/ambient, I would choose the Noire...as it really doesnt need EQ.

It is a big plus to have lots of aftermarket options to keep your headphones going, as I intend to only keep one pair and at these prices, they should last 10yrs (have had crap headhpones lasting nearly that long....)

Don't forget the plain and boring looking case for Focal headphones is €149. Like for real??

Hi guys, I'm wondering if sony wm1a is a good pair with t5 3rd? Is wm1a powerful enough for t5 3rd? Thank you very much!

or do you guys have any recommended AK's dap to pair with t5 3rd? I'm also wondering how is t5 3rd sounds like when paring with sp1000m. Thanks!
The older generations of the T5(p) were easy to drive, and I guess that didn’t or change.

I used my T5p 2. Gen with an AK380, worked just fine. Still like the 380 design much more than the newer models…

My ZX300 has more than enough power for the T5's, and then there is the balanced output. And I think the WMA1 has even more power.

Thank you very much for the answers. So, I think AK's dap matches t5(or t1 3rd) better than sony's? I saw someone says ultrasone panther matches t5 very well, would like to try the combo if I have a chance.
