Beyerdynamic T5 (3rd Generation)

The Aeons intrigue me but I have heard that they are kind of V-shaped and take some power to drive. I traded for these as a closed back that was easy to drive so that they could be my mobile headphones. And vocals are Huge to me. I would love to test some Aeons somewhere.
æon 2 noire's are fantastic with an amazing "I am not a closed back at all" feel to them. I returned them only to buy their big brother the Ether C Flow 1.1 in return.
They (æon 2 noire) don't thump like a dynamic though. If that is what you are after better spend that money elsewhere.

I received an email from Brainwavz

If the Cup Measurements of your Headphones match the dimensions of the Replacement earpads (within a margin of +/- 2-4 mm), then these would fit.

The Brainwavz ProStock Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 105 mm Width: 84 mm Inner Hole: 57 mm x 35 mm Thickness: 23 mm -> 10 mm

The Brainwavz Oval (Non Angled) Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 110 mm Width: 90 mm Inner Hole: 50 mm x 70 mm Thickness: 30 mm

The Brainwavz Oval Angled Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 110 mm Width: 80 mm Inner Hole: 40 mm x 70 mm Thickness: 40 mm -> 25 mm

The Brainwavz Round (XL Size) Replacement Earpad's Dimensions are Diameter : 110 mm Inner Hole Diameter: 65 mm Thickness: 30 mm

The Brainwavz Round Replacement Earpad's Dimensions are Diameter : 100 mm Inner Hole Diameter: 55 mm Thickness: 30 mm

The Brainwavz Replacement for MDR 7506 Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 100 mm Width: 75 mm Inner Hole: 60 mm x 32 mm Thickness: 20 mm

I'm not sure about the dimensions of the Beyerdynamic T5 3rd

Cup is 100mm wide. These are the measurements of the stock pads for the T5. I would mostly be interested in pads that are softer, helping with the clamp force. The foam in the dekoni pads is, at least to start, a bit too firm and just increases the pressure since they are 30mm thick.

Yes, I have them now as well as the T5, and it is a hard choice..... a blend of these two would be perfect.

The Aeon Noire have comfort and great detail while the T5's have an in soundstage and have a slightly more impactful bass (both useful for all electronic genres). Would love to have the A2N with the cable length of the T5 rather than the overly long stock cable.

The T5 does not need amplification as the A2N does, but is not as portable in its design as the A2N.

At the end of the day, if I can't manage to have the T5's be more comfortable, I'll have to go for the A2N. Dan Clark is correct on one thing....if its not comfortable, then its not listenable.

This was super helpful - thanks for your efforts!

I don't mind the clamping force, but rather it is the over-ear nature of the pads that was a deal breaker for me. I have had some good luck with pads off of ebay.

This one in particular is softer than the Dekonis, even though it is thicker. That listing allows you to pick among several sizes. 110mm is too large, and 100 is borderline too small. 105mm is my sweet spot.

@bluex, I can't recommend that one high enough; inexpensive, yet on par with Dekoni quality. Super thick and comfortable. 105mm is my sweet spot, but they have various sizes to choose from.

I don't see oval pads fitting, but this one has a bit of shape, and someone recommended it earlier in this thread:

are those a bit larger than the T5 default earpads ?
Thanks a million, TheRealDz
Yes - look above; stock is 100mm. These are much thicker that stock, and have edges vs being rounded off (think tire vs donut).

I bought a pair of Brainwavez XL which I think is 110 or 115, but found it too big.

One last question, before I order it :
Does it make a difference, from 100 mm to 105 mm ??? half a centimeter....
I think it does. Once again, 105mm is my sweet spot after trying a bunch of different pads. For MY ears, that size is perfect.
