Beyerdynamic T5 (3rd Generation)

Aug 29, 2021 at 2:07 PM Post #391 of 814
Did anyone here upgraded from Shure 1540 to Beyerdynamic T5 3rd generation ?
Could anyone help, please?
I want to replace the Shure 1540, I'd like to have a bit more bass
What would you recommend, for 800 - 900 Euro? Closed back, of course.
Thank you

@bluex: I have a 1540, and briefly had a T5 3rd. I have big respect for the 1540 - it doesn't get nearly as much love as it deserves. However, it is no match for T5 3rd.

From memory, the T5 has tighter, deeper bass and well as higher resolution across the board.

The 1540 is way more comfortable for me. In contrast, the T5 was fatally uncomfortable for me - which is why I returned it soon after buying it. For my big ears, it was effectively an on-ear design - which was unbearably uncomfortable. That said, you can easily pad swap with larger pads - which I am absolutely kicking myself for not investigating at the time.

The 1540 stands out for being such a tremendous value for the price. But the T5 stands out for me as being voiced nearly perfectly for my tastes. I have a DCA Ether CX that I am happy with, but I still can't get the memory of the T5s sound out of my head. I have a feeling I will pick up another one someday...

Thank you for your reply
I do listen mostly, rock, hard rock, metal, actually almost all music genres ( no Jazz )
I will order the Beyerdynamic T5 3rd generation, and if I'm not happy, I could send them back.
I'll be back after I get them.
Thank you, again.

I did, but about a year and half elapsed in between. I got a great deal on used 1540's, but they never overly impressed me. I can't think of a single thing they did badly. I also can't think of a thing they did great.
Except for comfort. They were so comfortable.
I think the T5's beat them in every area, including isolation.
Except, maybe on comfort.. They were crazy comfortable. Like my T60 Argons with oval suedes. Mmmmm.

I received the headphones. After I listened about 20 minutes, different kind of music I can say, the sound is amazing.
Only the ear pads could be a bit larger.
I wish I could have something similar with the ones I purchased for Shure 1540
Something like this one, I'm not sure which model, I did purchase it 4 years ago

I'm really impressed.Never thought, Hotel California or R.E.M. - Man on the Moon, sounds so amazing :) From 1 to 10, I'll give it 9,7
0,3 because of the ear pads, but I hope I'll find something similar with the oval Brainwavz.
I have no idea where to search ( I'm from Europe - Germany )
Thanks, guys

How do you find the clamp? I bought mine used and find it a little strong. Not painful, but firm.
I am sure that is part of the Great isolation.

The clamp is just right, imo
what would you recommend, for replacing the ear pads?
As I said before, I'd like to have something similar with the older ones from Shure 1540 ( oval, soft sheep leather)

I am OK with the ear pads. I thought they were kind of flat, but they work perfectly for me.

Yes, same here.... The clamp force is a bit too much, even after I have left them overnight stretched on some books.

Trying to decide on these or the Aeon 2 Noire, which are super comfortable...

Bought the T5 used and it came with dekoni pads, but the foam is a bit stiff and they are thicker than stock, so it doesn't help with the clamp. Have been listening mostly without the baffles/dampeners, but will probably try them back in and see how it affects the soundstage.

I received an email from Brainwavz

If the Cup Measurements of your Headphones match the dimensions of the Replacement earpads (within a margin of +/- 2-4 mm), then these would fit.

The Brainwavz ProStock Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 105 mm Width: 84 mm Inner Hole: 57 mm x 35 mm Thickness: 23 mm -> 10 mm

The Brainwavz Oval (Non Angled) Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 110 mm Width: 90 mm Inner Hole: 50 mm x 70 mm Thickness: 30 mm

The Brainwavz Oval Angled Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 110 mm Width: 80 mm Inner Hole: 40 mm x 70 mm Thickness: 40 mm -> 25 mm

The Brainwavz Round (XL Size) Replacement Earpad's Dimensions are Diameter : 110 mm Inner Hole Diameter: 65 mm Thickness: 30 mm

The Brainwavz Round Replacement Earpad's Dimensions are Diameter : 100 mm Inner Hole Diameter: 55 mm Thickness: 30 mm

The Brainwavz Replacement for MDR 7506 Earpad's Dimensions are Height: 100 mm Width: 75 mm Inner Hole: 60 mm x 32 mm Thickness: 20 mm

I'm not sure about the dimensions of the Beyerdynamic T5 3rd

The Aeons intrigue me but I have heard that they are kind of V-shaped and take some power to drive. I traded for these as a closed back that was easy to drive so that they could be my mobile headphones. And vocals are Huge to me. I would love to test some Aeons somewhere.
