ASR measured the output impedance of the UDA-1 at 332 ohms, while the power output @ 32 ohms is quoted at 55ma in the specs

Ah wasn't able to find it of the UDA-1 itself when I last checked, but sounds about right on the output impedance and power rating on lower impedance headphones. Does some strange things to headphones, sometimes very pleasant depending on the headphone. I keep the amp around because it sounds unique. Just finding the T1.3 pairs better with it than expected, vocal intelligibility and imaging is exceptional on the T1.3 with it for instance.

I need to try my Sony UDA-1 with the T1.3, I haven't confirmed it but if measurements of a similar device are anything to go by, the thing may have something in the realm of a 400 Ohm output impedance which would explain why everything sounds so different on it.

Won't that produce a large bass hump. Shouldn't the output impedance be ideally less than 4Ω for this.

In many cases the amp does cause a large bass hump in headphones, doesn't seem to on the T1.3 though. The 1/8th rule is a general guideline for impedance matching, but exceptions and oddities do exist.

Interesting, someone should do a T1.1,T1.2,T1.3 roundup. They seem like they're really 3 different headphones and not refinements of a single concept or target.

A difference is one is warm and dark, the other is more linear.

I don’t think the T1 is a good headphone for classical (and certainly not for somebody who is looking for a headphone that doesn’t disturb his/her surroundings. It’s semi-open and leaks sound).
My uncle is probably Denmark’s biggest classical fan, and well disregarding his whole thing for very bright headphones, which I definitely do not adhere to, he still taught me about the ‘Bruckner test’...which basically is music by Bruckner that features violins in a very important part of the upper midrange...and well many if not most headphones simply fail to reproduce them in a convincing way outside of those with neutral or forward mids. The new T1 fx will not sound realistic...yet that was never it’s intent..it is more of a laidback affair for cozing at the fireplace with a glass of scotch, a good pipe and Jim Morrison crooning in your ears.

You have heard the T1 Gen. 3 then? Or are you just speculating?

Yes I have heard it (I would never comment like this on a headphone I’d never heard).
Like I’ve already mentioned a couple of times earlier in this thread, this headphone is like an even warmer/darker Nighthawk. It achieves this darkness by dialing the mids even further back in the presentation. Most if not all the classical fans I know..that also happen to use headphones..tend to go for cans with clear mids like fx the K701/702, HD600/650 or DT880.

It sounded like you were speculating in your post - mea culpa and I'm sorry about my comment. I have the T1 Gen. 2 and love it - it really picked up its game when powered by the Burson amp in my profile. Very clear mids, too, a little too bright on the top end, and an extended and clear bottom end too. It sounds like I may not like the Gen. 3.

Oh, I think the T1.3 is marvelous for Classical, so far at least. I used to use the T1 original for Classical, but found it sometimes too bright. I'd go back and forth between that and the HD800-- the latter you might say is technically better, but it can be a bit clinical. The Beyer's add a touch of warmth, while still offering good detail, speed, punch, separation, soundstage, etc. Yes, I can see the T1.3 being too 'veiled' for some; but for my treble-sensitive ears, they are just what the doctor ordered. I listen to mostly Classical nowadays, and of the headphones I own, it's currently my fave for that genre.

I'd also call it a disservice to merely reduce them to being an update for the NightHawk set. I like the NightHawk a lot, imperfections and all. But the T1.3 is better. To my ears at least, of course.

I could be wrong and maybe the tastes of classical fans have veered towards the warmer headphones.
I would however strongly urge anyone with a backhistory with Beyers, especially the earlier renditions of the T1, to audition this baby before a purchase...at the very least make sure you get it from a dealer you can return it to, if it ends up being a dud. It is a most unusual sounding headphone and a complete u-turn tuning wise from Beyerdynamic.
Personally I slightly prefer it over the 2. Gen. I could never get along with the latter’s spicy treble.

Thanks for that opinion - I do prefer warmer rather than anything that is described as "crisp" LOL. This may explain the headphones in my signature.
