Hey so I'll be using these strictly on my computer which is hooked up to a xonar essence STX and no other amps/dac's. Which dt 770 would sound better, the 80 ohm or 250 ohm version? I'm a bit concerned about the ability of the essence STX to drive the 250 ohm version, but the built in amp says it's technically capable of driving up to 600 ohms. Is there any large difference in sound quality between these two versions?

If you want to know the differences in the sound quality, take a look at the thread in my signature.

The 80Ohm should be easier to amp than the 250Ohm version in theory, but I am not sure. I've only heard all of them on my ROC which is rather powerful.

The 250Ohm model would be much better suited than the 600Ohm model. The STX may claim to drive rated at 600Ohm's, but IMO it can not do it ll that well.

I just tried my T1 on my Xonar Essence STX and it sounded rather flat and lifeless. The DT880 and DT990 did not fair any better with the Essence either.

I've used my 650's with the essence stx as well, and they sounded ok...nothing compared to my amp.
I say, Zombie's suggestion sounds good to me....buy the 600ohm version when you get an amp.

Do you happen to have a 250 ohm DT770 to test with it? Won't be able to afford a proper amp for some time so I want to be satisfied with just the STX and headphone combo, sounding like it might be best to stick to the 80 ohm version.

I don't have any DT770's anymore, nor do I have any on hand. But I would say without a doubt that the 250Ohm version would be easier to power than the 600Ohm version. The 80Ohm would be even easier, though the 32Ohm would need more power than the 80Ohm, but not much more than the 250Ohm version.
