Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO // DT 1990 PRO MK II -- Impressions Thread

I know that these are not headphones for working out, but sometimes I want something to do while listening to long albums. I noticed while listening to these headphones while walking on a treadmill that frequent popping noises come from the drivers. At 2.25mph and lower its the right driver, but at 2.75 mph and higher its both drivers. My guess is that a static electrical charge is being built up somewhere and the headphones can't handle it.

October 21st, 2019 I bought a pair of 1990’s. Honestly they were my favorite headphones. Anyway I got into more “expensive“ headphones and ended up selling my 1990’s about six months after I bought them.

October 12th, 2020 I buy the 1990’s again. I missed them. I like them more than any headphone I’ve ever tried. Happy to have them back. Going to sell some of the other gear I bought. I was chasing a sound that I already found.

My new Denon AH-D7200's are hogging all the head time at the moment (new toy syndrome) but my 1990's are never going anywhere, they are alike my HD650's, absolute keepers. They do have a war wound these days, the plastic housing where the headband slider goes through shattered and is currently being held together with duct tape.

Has anyone tried the foam inserts that have been mentioned in the thread? I found these on Beyer's website, but they look different from the one referenced in the quoted post.

https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/foam-disc-new.html?msclkid=254a6b2bbb1111559c5934a8beefaff3

These are the aforementioned foam inserts. Seems like Beyer added these sometime this year but I have not seen any reviews that had them.

Im into something else. I talked to beyer and got a few of these foam pieces a few people showed interest and we talked about why they do this and if the 1990 will benefit from them. You can see it a few pages back from here.

And i can tell you why they do this it solves the problem with the beyer peak and all beyers will have these from now on

When my iec711 arrives i will show graphs how they measure on the 1990

That pad is the stock pad for the DT-1990. You want the Tygr 300 R pad, which you will note is not listed.

I've been using my DT-1990 for 6 months or so now. I've been using the stock A ear pads. Today I received a set of Dekoni Elite Velour pads. These pads are made with an attached dust/debris shield. Since the DT-1990 already has dust/debris shields/pads how should the Elite Velours be mounted?... Use them as is resulting in 2 shields/pads per side or remove one of the shields/pads? The Dekoni shields appear fairly thin, perhaps not affecting sound quality? Any help with this question would be greatly appreciated!

Dont remove them just spin the pads over like the stock ones

Took me 87 minutes to change the pads, anyone else with a bigger record ?
You will get good. I can do them both in under 30 seconds now. I actually put that I am a German Engineer on my resume. I heard to pass the German engineering test you have to put them both on in under 30 seconds. My tip.. don't do a full twist. Just do a lil bit at a time.

I think the first time I change them it look like 90mins. I legit had to watch videos online over and over again. I had no idea about the notch. Now that I got it down I love the system.

My advice...remove the rings, mount the pads, put the rings back on.
You may also order extra rings so you can leave every pad with them and make replacement operations much faster. This is what I did :-)

I wonder how the bass quality of this one is. Hopefully (much) better than the DT990 Pro 250 Ohm's which I find to have a rather muddy and slow low-end.
Haven't owned the DT990. But I've owned the 1990 Pro 3 or 4 times (always come back to them) and I think the low end is fantastic. Really no complaints for the price, especially pre-owned.

You're off to a fine start. Now try some HD 25 pads :D

Removing the mounting ring is also what I do, when changing pads, making the process pretty quick and easy. Great idea to buy extra mounting rings for switching pads!

And the rings are quite cheap to buy from BeyerDynamic, €1,40 each.
It is also interesting to see that BD sells replacements pads with rings already mounted
