Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone

Just bought these using the HHgregg deal on Google Shopping. I've recently tried DT990 600ohm (comfort issue on top band), hifi man he4xx (comfort issue), and akg 7xx (liked sound stage, worried about build quality, issue with statix). Thought stepping up a tier would be worth it, though my primary use is gaming. Looked like I'll lose a little sound stage from the 7xx, but again significant imaging. Any tips for me to get the most from these for my purposes? I'm using an evga nu audio po to drive it.

I was planning to use analytical pads as I think that will help with footsteps.

Welcome to Gang DT-1990. :) Why don't you try them for a week and see how you like them. Then you can get involved with EQing. I posted my settings earlier in this thread.

What is everyone using for an amp for their 1990? I'm in the position to upgrade. I'm currently using the MCTH which I really like. I'm not sure if I should just stay there or try a tube amp out. The Bottlehead Crack seems pretty neat but I'm not sure how it will pair with the 1990s

personally I think they pair very nicely with the Crack. I had to switch back to my magni 3 while I put a choke in the Crack and there is a noticeable difference. I think the Crack helps tame some of the high end sharpness that occurs during long listening sessions

When my 1990 shows up in the mail, it will be paired with my SMSL M8A V3 DAC (ES9038Q2M DAC Chip), and my Audio-GD C-2 2017 Edition headphone amp. This should make for an excellent pairing. This amp has huge power, and a completely neutral sound signature. I highly recommend it. Just look at the power output on this puppy.

9900MW / 25 ohm
8000MW / 40 ohm
3500MW / 100 ohm
1200MW / 300 ohm
600MW / 600 ohm

Hey Chastity, I talked to my friend about the DT1990. He has agreed to let me test his pair against my new pair, if mine shows up with the newer box. His pair is over 2 years old. This way, I can test if the 8kHz peak has been reduced on the pairs which come in the newer packaging, like the rep had told me.

Assuming his pads aren't worn out.

Everyone on here thus far who ended up getting one in the new packaging has said that their headphone is not sibilant at all. This will be a good test if I get one in the new box. I want to get to the bottom of this. Mine has not shown up from Amazon yet. It is supposed to be here tomorrow. Canada Post sucks though, so I won't be surprised if it shows up Monday.

I found the DT 1990s and the Woo WA 2 to be made for each other.
