A friend of mine in town here owns a DT1990. He has had it for a couple years now. If I end up getting one in the newer package, I can ask to him to let me compare his DT1990 to the one I get. How do you find the treble on your pair, Chastity ?

Edit: I am wondering where you bought yours from too, since you have the updated version.
I got mine from hhgregg.com for $436 in November.

Sibilance is normally between 5 and 8khz. I also got the one with the new box. I understand now why I haven't had any problem with treble.
I see. That's a pretty good news. Although I hope it will apply for the 1770 too.

I had to pay 600 Canadian plus tax. This was after a forced discount too. Amazon cancelled my previous T1 2nd Gen order, when it was listed at 900 Canadian, claiming they had none in stock. Right after, they listed it in stock again, with a price about 200 bucks higher. Totally dishonest on their part. I ended up complaining to their management, and they agreed to sell me a T1 2nd Gen for 900 Canadian and tax (the original price I paid), or the DT1990 for 600 plus tax. Prices in this country just suck. Look at our "regular price" for the DT1990 and T1. This is before taxes by the way. After tax, the DT1990 is over 800 Canadian. The T1 after tax is 1300 dollars. This is just outrageous.

I think I see Amazon Warehouse selling the 1990s at a good discount a number of times (~$550 or less). Only thing is you're gambling if it's in great condition, but one way to go instead of buying new.

I did ask the rep if they could let me know how much the new DT1990 has been reduced by at 8kHz. All they said was "I don't have that information. I can only state that the revised DT1990 that comes in the new package has had the peak lowered. There is still an 8kHz peak present, but it has now been reduced".

If I had to guess, I would think it is probably 2dB, maybe 3 tops. Lowering it beyond that would end up disrupting that special detail retrieval that the DT1990 is known for.

I contacted Beyerdynamic USA, and the customer rep asked the Tech guys about it, and they said that there was no retuning. Just new repackaging. If you have any info from your contact, please post it, or even any FR charts.

I just recently bought the dt1990 and I didn't get a chance to listen to them much other than on a car ride back from Houston. I had listened to them a little bit the night I got them but not much. Because I don't gave any travel DAC I just brought my fiio e10k and used that through my phone. I really enjoyed the sound, it is extremely crisp and fast. When those high hats are hit they are clear and I heard it so cleanly. It actually became a little too much for me and I had to scramble to find music that didn't have any drums at all so I could relax a bit more.

The odd thing is, when I get home and plug it into my heresy I don't hear this at all. Where it was pretty harsh and a little too bright, its warmed up and is no longer fatiguing to listen to. I feel it has lost a little bit of that detail though. Before this I had no clue how impactful the dac/amp combo would impact sound.
