Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone

Are you listening to these unamped? It's not surprising that the DT 1990 wouldn't sound as good out of an iPhone/iPad without an amp... Also not surprising that the Andromeda doesn't sound great out of your PC. I don't think I have any amps that could drive both a sensitive IEM and the Beyers satisfactorily.

Anyway. Glad you're enjoying both of your 'phones now!

I tried both with the Sonata HD Cable.

So, after further tests I can confirm that the Andromeda sounds just better then the DT 1990 on the iPhone / iPad with the Sonata HD Cable and not. On the other side, on PC the Andromeda sounds just bad – because of the impedance.

...I realized I should have said I don't have an amp that will drive both to their fullest. My FiiO E12A does a decent job with both, just that the DT 1990 can sound better.

Can anyone check, who has both DT1990 pro and 770/880/990, is the headband adjustment range the same for them? Because I purchased used DT880 and I have headband adjustment maxed out and I still need more room, because earpad is rubbing lower ear. Thanks!

I have DT1990 and Massdrop DT990 premium, measuring from the top of the earcup around the inside of the headband to the other cup (both fully extended) the measurements are the same.

I've noticed that the 250 Ohm DT 1990s are easier to drive than the 250 Ohm DT 770s. Is that because of the tesla drivers?

The DT770 has a sensitivity of 96 dB/mW while the DT1990 has a rating of 102 dB/mW, so the impedance may be the same but the 770 needs more power for the same volume.
Thanks, thats helpful to know. I'm close to buying the 1770s for on-the-go use (I've enjoyed the 1990s for years - love them) and needed to know if they would also be as easy to drive as my LGv30 doesn't quite drive the 770s well enough, but it has plenty of juice for the 1990s.

Hi everybody,
I have my DT880 and DT1990 here with Valhalla 2 (stock tubes) and Bifrost Multibit. And i like DT880 sound more than DT1990 with Valhalla! While DT1990 are probably better headphones, i hear more mids and less sibilance with DT880 - more enjoyable experience. I listen mostly to the blues, old rock. Anybody have similar experience?

Should some tube rolling help with mids?

Which pads do you use? The A pads with 4 holes are closer to the DT880 while the B one is more like the DT990. This might help with hearing more mids, I get actually fatigue with the B pad and prefer the A pad.

Guys I've successfuly converted mine to Balanced and the increase in sound quality is really ridiculous!

I'm now using them in balanced mode through my Questyle CMA400i unit and the sound is so much more articulate, airy and unrestricted. I'll never go non-balanced again!
