Good to hear, that these problems lie in the past. 
 
@DasKobold Never had problems with the coiled cable. It's soft enough to be inaudible when touched or rubbed on clothing. Maybe it really depends on the sort of textile.

  Guys, is there something I can do to reduce the microphonics? Every time I touch the cable it makes some weird noise that pisses me the hell off. I actually like the cables it come with but this noise is really annoying because I always end up touching the cable.

It does make the soundstage larger and more natural in the way it's less like listening to a recording but more like being there. Can't blame the stock cables for this since it is supposed to be a studio tool.

On a serious note, if you bought yours from @sonicelectronix, they will probably be able to help you with a warranty claim. I had an issue with a HIFIMAN iem, and they swapped it out free of charge once they got it in stock. Only took two weeks, but would have been faster if they had the item on hand.

Purchased mine in Au mate so I will have to contact the Aussie distributor.

I think I will experiment with these two connectors to get a single-sided 4-pin xlr on the DT1770. Looks like things should fit right in. "

Does anyone know how the base quality and quantity compares to Sony Flagship Sony MDR-Z7?

I ask this question as clearly people are praising the Base on the DT1770Pro.

I had both in parallel for some time. The Z7 is a very special headphone. They sound very different from the DT1770. I liked both a lot. The Sony is like a bassy lounge, treble are very laid back. It is a stunning beauty, better keep it safe at home, it's not for on the go. The ears get very easily warm and sweaty inside it's cups and you will never get any spare parts outside of Japan probably. The DT1770 has a good fast and deep bass great mids and also great treble. Nothing is outstanding, but all is fine. The velour pads are not overly warm and sweaty, so a can for all seasons. It's built like a tank, it can go with me wherever I want. And you get spare parts like for all other Beyer cans at reasonable prices. Btw, to me the pads are consumables that need to be changed after 2 to 3 years. So the precious Sony went off in good condition and the DT1770 is on my head every day now.

Thanks for the impressions. I really liked the DT1770's sound, which is why I'll probably be grabbing one again.

I've been told the strengths of the Sony are its deep bass, soundstage (for a closed back) and comfort.

I've also heard it's overly dark (too bassy, and the mids are warmer sounding than they should be), and the treble is slightly rolled off.

I enjoy a detailed, energetic treble response for metal and orchestral.

I also liked the speed and PRAT on the Beyers.

Would you say the Sonys wouldn't be as good of a fit for me as the Beyers?

Sony price in UK is £549 compared to £369ish for the DT1770Pro.

And in general just a note to UK purchasers;
we do not get ripped off on Sennheiser and BEYERDYNAMIC Products when purchasing via Amazon (maybe because they are based in Europe and so lower shipping/international taxes).


For many of the other Audiophile brands we (UK consumers) are relatively paying much much much more than USA consumers. This could be for many reasons to include shipping, tax and profit margins.

A good point and thank you - as even with shipping the price would be competitive.

My concern would be warranty and support from Sony UK as they only support UK/EU purchased models.

Actually my heart is already set on the DT1770Pro but just interested in the Base Comparisons since the MDR-Z7 are known for great base.

You get obliterated by import taxes even when purchasing through Amazon US from within most (possibly all) European countries but if the price difference is actually that large it would be one of the very rare cases where dealing with VAT and customs handling may be worth while.

My understanding was the OP was from the UK, so VAT is (un)fortunately no longer an issue, due to you-know-what.


I'm an American, so please correct me if I'm wrong about that.
