Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

Yes, I do own the Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro (250 ohms) - l like it a lot, but I like more the Kennerton Gjallarhorn JM Edition (32 ohms).
Hi @jonathan c. Could you elaborate this a bit and provide a brief comparison between these cans in terms of overall tonality, speed, fun factor and preferred music genres.
I'm looking for a decent HP for metal, both Beyers and Kennertons are in my list.

Hello there, damn it was a lot of time spent to read this and some other topics about this headset :)
Got my DT 1700 Pro today.
Very first impressions - LG V60 despite quad dac is not enough to drive 250ohm :O Connected them to Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100 - much better. So far like soft treble. But still feels not released potential. So did purchase of the decade and ordered FiiO K9 Pro. Hopes are really high to kick all 250ohms at full power :)

Cheers!

• I have owned a DT-1770 Pro for 2-1/2+ years and really enjoy it. Very deep bass, clear well sculpted midrange, extended treble - all without harshness or stridency and with excellent detail and dynamics. The soundstage is very good for a closed-back headphone.
• The FiiO K9 Pro should have no problem driving the 1770. Despite a nominal input impedance of 250 ohms, the 1770 is reasonably efficient. Its sensitivity is 106.2 dB per milliwatt and 112.2 dB per volt (this measure incorporates the input impedance). These readings are close to the median across a variety of headphones.
• If you wish, you can upgrade the headphone cable. The 1770 is certainly resolving enough for you to hear a difference. FYI, I have been using a Lavricables Grand silver cable for the 1770. 🎼😄.
• In the meantime, enjoy!

To @PauliusB and @Stevko (and others), of the various high-impedance headphones that I have (Audeze, Beyer, Sennheiser, ZMF) they all sound best with a tube OTL headphone amplifier. The greatest sound improvement when powered by the Woo WA2, for me, happens with the DT-1770. It comes to life. Yes, it is closed-back; but the sonic horizon gets pushed out and is palpably filled with great imaging and tonal balance. 😄🤪

Hello, is it worth modding the dt1770pro to balanced connection?
If you have a good balanced amp then I would say yes. Due to the impedance they're worth driving balanced. Do they need it? Not necessarily.

My DAC is Sony ta-zh1es , the headphones sound pretty amazing (A perfect combo for video gaming, imho. Much better than the Sony Z7m2.) with the coiled stock cable, no doubt. But it's too heavy and I have to use the straight cable which to my hearing sounds worse. So I need a custom cable. My dac has 1200mW power output on the balanced outputs and only 300mW on the unbalanced. Though the 1770pro max power handling capacity is just 200mW which falls well within the unbalanced specs of the dac power output.... So I am not sure if the balanced mod will really make the difference in my situation, unless the headphones are known to respond particularly well to the balanced modification. Thus the question.

50mW(300ohm) is enough to make it sing.

You could consider an upgrade cable from customcans.co.uk. I bought one for my DT 1770s because I didn't like (ok, I hate) the stock cables with idiot adapters.
