Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

The T90 was "not so bassy nor overly warm" as well and I hated it, due to the sharp treble spike that would drive itself into my skull.

I should have written "not so bassy nor warm as previously stated in maker's description".

I had T90 in my inventory and didn't like it so much due to the same reason with you.
Rest assured Amiron's treble isn't sharp as T90. brighter than DT1770PRO though.

The build is mostly plastic and feels quite light. DT1990 feels much heavier as it has more metal parts. Because it's lighter, Amiron is more comfortable than DT1990 for me.

Sound wise, this is totally different from the 'Beyer house sound'. I would characterize is as being neutral bass and mids, and dark treble. It sounds very similar to DT1990 (which is very similar to DT1770). i think the only difference is that Amiron has smoother treble. Amiron pretty much sounds like a HD6XX with more bass. I would't charactetize them as warm or bassy like T51p. The treble is surprisingly very smooth and dark. It would be impossible to for sibilant to occur while that couuld stil happen for DT1990. Detail level is significantly less than DT1990. I would't call them competitors although they are priced not too far away. DT1990 has significantly better detail retrieval and soundstage.

I personally am puzzled why they created Amiron. I feel like they are trying to create a cheaper DT1990 that is slightly warmer/darker but the price difference is too small in my opinion. They are about 20% cheaper than DT1990 from where i see them. They should be 30-40% cheaper.

with all the negativity aside, i like where beyer is going in terms of sound tuning with their new range of headphones. They are aiming for the analytical but still natural sound(no harsh treble).

Hmm.
Trying to decide whether to stock these, and have not been able to hear them for myself yet.
If they are indeed "smooth and dark" I would stock them to provide customers a different flavor. If they are "brighter than DT1770" (as I feel the DT1990 are), they may not be different enough from the 1990 to stock both.

Can anyone else who has actually heard all 3 (Amiron, 1770, 1990) comment? Thanks.

The new DT1990 is reported to have a V-shaped response, but with better mids than the Dt990.
A very interesting headphone this Dt1990.

But surely better mids would un-V it?! Most reports I've read call it pretty neutral. If it's anything like the DT-1770 then I would definitely call it neutral.

Yes, the are more neutrall than dt990, but there is still very slight v-shaped signature, the mids of course are more pronounced than dt990, deails and soundstage are great...

the dt 1990 are not at all v-shaped, are very balanced. I would more describe them as s dt880 with more vibrant highs, much better mids and hormonized bass . Great headphones but now with 300 euros more you can get the t1 second gen or the t5p second gen, both superior.

Interesting to see a new "T90" but displeasing at the same time to see something theoricaly better while I've already spent a lot on my T90. To be honnest I've had the (AKG K702, DT880Pro, T90) and I don't find the treble to be too high/harsh and it doesn't give me an headache after 1 houre or less, as some people are reporting here. I understand they are less neutral than the 880 but I find the "V-shaped" signature to be more pleasant and to sound good on pretty much any type of music without needing to add an EQ to compensate for a sound that would be too flat.

So far just by looking at the product, since the technical specs is the same, it seems it isn't worth it at all for those who already own the T90 and even still, the new one will prolly be much more expensive than a used T90 so not worth the difference, I understand it is mostly a question of better esthetic, lighter weight, better cable management and maybe more confortable earpads but pretty much the same sound?

Yeah i agree. I would characterize them as natural/neutral with thinner mids. You could call them HD600 with more bass. Or Nighthawks with thinner mids and slightly more treble. Amiron, 1990, 1770 do not carry the typical beyer 'house' sound of thin minds and very present treble.

All of the Tesla Beyers have a character to their sound different from the non-Teslas, even the minis like DT1350.

Interested in these since they don't sound like they'll have the same treble fatigue (something I never get with my HD600's).

But what's even worse than the treble is just the general discomfort I get with my DT880's. Either my ears are freakishly big or freakishly small, because they get physically sore after about an hour, especially my left ear where the wire tugs, something I've never had with my Senn's. I can somehow tame the treble with my amp, but comfort-wise there doesn't seem like much I can do.

I remember reading that the DT990's were more comfortable than the 880's, despite looking nearly identical. I was just wondering if these were more along the 990's or 880's comfort wise?
