Beyerdynamic Amiron Home (the new T90)

Ahhh.... the amiron wireless is closed...haven’t looked close enough...haha...

They look quite ok. All major Beyers released the last years were really nice looking (especially T1, T90, DT1770). Then came the amiron... what a dated design! Even the DT990 Pro looks cooler.

My review on Beyerdynamic Amiron Home is live now! I never knew the T90, but compared to everything I have to date, those are really worth their price and really have a place in the market. Soft sound and pretty musical, they are a real love for the ears! I invite you to read more about them in the full-length review!

The Amiron Home ended up being my end game for open back headphones. I have really been enjoying it. There is just no need to go beyond this headphone. You should give my EQ set a try. IMO, it takes this headphone to the next level in sound quality.

My friend, you really like fine tuning things, I think the EQ profile you propose is a good idea!

I see some things I naturally did when I played with EQ with them, like slightly lowering the 8kHz area and increasing the sub-bass area, although I did it with larger amounts.

Great review. Definitely are excellent headphones, always been one of my favorite open backs around the price.

This EQ also greatly improves the detail retrieval of the headphone as a result of removing that mid bass bloat that the Amiron Home has.

The Amiron's definitely improve notably with EQ, one of the most EQ'able open backs I've come across, the stock tuning actually hides some of it's fidelity, I've compared it to an EQ'd HD 650 and HD 660 S as well, the Amiron Home is clearly a higher fidelity headphone to my ears.. Wish you could hear my modded DT 480 though, completely different level than the Amiron.

I think we discussed that headphone before, but I don't recall the details. What mods did you do to the DT 480 ?

A few, I adjusted the magnets a bit, it's threaded so it can be removed/adjusted, added some sorbothane connecting the housing to the back of the magnet and a couple more pieces or sorbothane inside. And some felt on the baffle with the driver opening fully exposed and different pads. Most recently swapped the headband cable for a newer one. Still need to replace the internal wiring. The headphones are old so it's using crappy aluminum wiring most likely, really chokes the headphone, especially in terms of body, etc. Transplanting the drivers in to a DT 100/150 housing or replacing the internal cables will do a lot of good.

That is quite a bit of work done on that headphone. How are you finding the HD660S ? I have not heard that headphone. The reviews seem to be mixed. Half the people love it, and the other half seems to not like it.

It is, but the drivers are incredible, I noticed a freakish clarity, lack of grain, and transparency even stock. Going to have to put the DT 480 aside soon though due to the heat of summer coming, Amiron and HD 660 S will be used mostly during the next few months. The HD 660 S is a different animal than the Amiron, it's a more intimate and a meatier sound, still has some of the weaknesses of the HD 600/650 though, such as some imaging issues(most noticeable with binaural recordings with left-right panning) and lack of extension in the bass/treble. It's a bit of a mix of the HD 600 and HD 650 but with more meat/larger image size to the sound. I personally like the HD 660 S as it offers a different flavor to the sound than the Amiron.

It sounds like the HD660S is a much improved HD700. Speaking of another headphone, I just got the Final Audio Design Sonorous IV as a closed back upgrade from my Focal Listen. Oh my, what an upgrade it is indeed. This is an amazing headphone, and I am really enjoying it. The imaging, soundstage, detail retrieval, and musicality of this headphone are just fantastic. I have about 6 hours use on it so far. It it already burning in nicely. I would imagine this one will be fully burned in after 20 hours or so.
