In the late '70s, the DT480 came out as a studio-oriented alternative to the DT48
Those evolved into the plastic-driver DT100, which are still used in studios all over the place.
The DT150 was designed to add more bass response to the DT100 design
The DT250 was designed to maintain a similar sound signature to the above, but to create a smaller form factor (they aren't quite as ugly)
So yeah, the housing and--from what I understand--the drivers are significantly different.
Well, speculations like this doesn't really answer my question. I'm going to open the DT250 and compare it to a DT880 to see if the drivers are similar. Of course i realise that Beyer has modified the drivers since the DT880 was first introduced some 30 years ago, which has to be taken into account.
