Depends. I've tried both. For gaming and movies the DT770s hands down. I found the DT770s bass to be too boomy for my liking which didn't fit well with the music I listen to. The mids are also very recessed. For music I'd pick the 840s. They weren't quite my style but they were pretty good. Fairly neutral response but I didn't find them too exciting. They weren't terribly comfortable for me so the DT770s win that department. Of course it all comes down to personal preference so if you can find a place that has the 840s to compare to your DT770s. Guitar center is usually a good bet as I believe they have the 840s, DT770s, and a few other cans worth mentioning. Hope this helps.

Yeah, the Shures are way better for music.

definitely, the shure 840s are, at least IMO much nicer for music and they fail terribly at gaming and anything requiring a stage.

the 770s are bigger sounding, allowing for a better for accurate FPS experience, not really great but at least better than the 840.

They have a good sound stage to be a closed can, but not great and not bad. The dt770s sound stage seem larger because of the recessed mids. I agree with others they would be better for gaming, but the balance is way of for music IMO.

good? its good, but not good enough to game in a first person shooter where you need to pinpoint sounds, not even close.  I used the 840s to game with for a while, it was hard and i died a lot because i couldnt find where the sounds were coming from

In my opinion, Yes. Depends on what you're looking for though. Do you like a lot of bass? A fun type sound sig or do you prefer a more balanced sound?

The better comparison should be the DT770/600 and the SRH840s.

I've owned both and much preferred the DT770/600s.

Don't bother with the 32/80/250 ohm versions. They are not as good and not very balanced. Just my two cents...
