will the studio monitors be able to deliver enough bass?

There are some very good Youtube vds which should give you some idea of how bassy some of the studio monitors are - the HS80M surprised the hell out of me with a metal mix - but NOTHING can ever beat an audition.

Depends on your taste, monitors usually have enough bass but nothing ground-shaking. You can always get a sub later if you want.

thanks for the recommends all.  I look forward to upgrading from my current setup of the emagic26 and bose multimedia speakers.

haven't decided on a DAC yet either.

contenders are the following but still mulling over the one to go with:

  1. Grant Fidelity TubeDAC-11
  2. Nuforce Icon HDP
  3. Yulong D100 MKII
  4. Matrix Mini i 24 192
  5. Apogee Duet
  6. Audiolab M-DAC (if I decide to splurge)
