Best Speakers for $50?

That makes sense. I talked over buying my setup with my dad and he said he was worried about the bass because there will be no subwoofer. Should I be concerned? And also, how would these speakers stack up against similar priced computer speakers liked the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1? I say these are simlarly priced because after everything i'd have to buy, it'd be around $100 for these, and if I buy the Klipsch used it'd be around $100. Though the Klipsch would be slightly more expensive.

Some discussion of that in this thread: http://www.head-fi.org/t/680179/best-2-1-speaker-system-for-under-100

Then here is a discussion about the Lepai/Dayton setup: http://www.head-fi.org/t/627161/my-very-low-budget-nearfield-desktop-rig-lepai-amp-and-dayton-audio-speakers

Shipping at Monoprice can be a little high if you are only buying one item. So sometimes not cheaper than buying from Amazon.

With a $50 budget I'd check Craigslist to see what's available in your area. It might take a couple weeks of searching, but you shouldn't have trouble finding great speakers and an early 2000's circa AVR within your budget. People sell their old gear all the time for soundbars and micro HTiB speakers. In Austin I see quality speakers under $50 on a weekly basis.

I'm rocking some vintage 1980's Boston Acoustics A100s & Marantz receiver I bought for $40 as PC speakers. Receiver doubles as a good DAC/headphone amp too boot.

Otherwise buy the best speakers you can afford and a cheap t-amp. If you feel confident enough to assemble your own speakers, these make great PC speakers without breaking the bank:
