Best Soundtrack?

steve coal: hans zimmer did a track on the POTC soundtrack i believe, swords crossed if im not mistaken.

1. POTC - played an arrangment this year at school and fell in love with it.

2. Black Hawk Down - the arab singing in this is beautiful, similar to Audioslave's "show me how to live" at the end. theres just something about it..

3. Collateral - The soundtrack makes the movie(IMO) the dynamics between music and silence actually within the movie brought the movie to a different level. The sense of despair and helplessness that is created was amazing.

4. last but not least anything by John Williams.

Unbreakable - James Newton Howard
Planet of the Apes - Jerry Goldsmith
High and the Mighty - Dimiti Tiomkin (owes a lot to Sibelius)
Private Life of Sherlock Holmes - Miklos Rozsa (owes a lot to Vaughan Williams)
Ghost and Mrs Muir - Bernard Herrmann
To Kill a Mockingbird - Elmer Bernstein

I've been re-reading the posts. It made me think of a few more...

Any of the Bernard Herrmann Ray Harry Hausen film soundtracks, Mysterious Island etc. All very good, fun music in the Stravinsky vein.

Bullitt - Lalo Schifrin

Are we including TV soundtracks?

Jerry Goldsmith did Man From UNCLE, at least the first season. It's some of his finest work and commands three double CD from Film Score Monthly, although Goldsmith's dramatic music is stretched with inferior second and third season filler.

If you like that one, try Spirited Away OST. There's like three or four different discs though.

It's a rather odd story, but the music is very beautiful.

dont remember if I posted here before

but for people who said their favorite soundtrack is garden state

check out the Royal Tenenbaums OST. Its 1000x better then the garden state soundtrack (which is just mainstream indie-ish music).

Pretty much any Yoko Kanno OST
Tommy Tallarico - Advent Rising OST
Kenichiro Fukui - Einhander OST
Harry Gregson-Williams - Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 OST
Shadow of the Colossus OST
Xenogears OST and Creid
Every Silent Hill OST

I'm surprised noone has said The Black Cauldron by Elmer Bernstein, or The Dark Crystal by Trevor Jones. Two of my ALL time favourites!!! You have to get hold of the expanded editions of both.

Other favourites:
Steamboy
Blade Runner (Esper Edition or Los Angeles 2019)
Dune
Mulan (the COMPLETE score...)
Akira
Swordfish (non orchestral.... but still not "songs", which I dont count)
Back to the Future series
Ghost in the Shell
Clockwork Orange
Amelie
Nightmare Before Christmas
Corpse Bride
Princess Mononoke (although it relaxes me so much I fall asleep)
Gladiator
Hero
ANY alien movie soundtrack but especially Resurrection (creepy!)
Run Lola Run
Requiem for a Dream
Batman Begins
Indiana Jones - Last Crusade
Robocop
Leon (The Professional)
The Omen

Just listen to the first track (Gabriel's Oboe). You will purchase it soon after. It's that good.
