If you haven't heard the 300 OST I really recommend it.

This is seriously one of the best soundtracks ever. I have it both on CD and red vinyl. I'm also a huge fan of Piero Piccioni, Armando Trovaioli & Bruno Nicolai's work. Pure genius all of 'em.

Someone in this thread mentioned the 'Scrubs' OST along with the Garden State OST. I second both. Also the Scrubs OST v.II that's available on iTunes only (doesn't that suck?) is a great group of songs.

My favorite song from all of those is The Mavericks - "I Want To Know You" off of the Scrubs v.II

I'll second Kajiura Yuki. Noir and .hack OSTs are awesome.

Since videogame OSTs doesn't seem to get enough love I'll throw Castlevania and Chrono Trigger into the mix. Both are stellar orchestrated.

And lastly... Danny Elfman is a genius.

"Repo man" seconded.

Kusturicas movies "Underground" and "Black cat, white cat" - music by Bregovic - great if you like Balkan Brass. Good "music-movie synergy" as wall.

"Gadjo Dilo" - Great Balkan Brass as well.

Kubricks "2001" and "The Shining" - music by Ligeti and Penderecki - Not for the "music-movie synergy", but because I like Ligeti and Penderecki. I really enjoyed like the parts in "2001" with Ligeti's "Atmospheres".

Herzogs "Nosferatu" - music by Popol Vuh

my personal favorite is "the commitments" -- truly great/fun music

if you want to look in terms of sales, i'm surprised no one has mentioned "saturday night fever" -- this was a monster

another classic not mentioned -- "animal house"

as mentioned, disney has tons of classic soundtracks, but "little mermaid" is my favorite
