But just copying the prices of your competitors doesn't make you more money either or we wouldn't have price wars would we? Everyone would just collude and all would have the same prices for a given product. Yes in theory there is one exact price that will sell enough units while still keeping the price as high as possible, but figuring out that price is nontrivial. It's possible that ZTE might actually make more money if they actually try to compete with Meizu and Vivo in terms of price and sell the Axon 7 for something like $299 or whatever. Or maybe they would make more money copying whatever Apple is asking for the latest iPhone. They likely don't know and neither do you or I. And this doesn't even get into the value of your relatively new brand getting into as many hands as possible. The higher your price the fewer people are going to buy your product. Full stop.

There is no way people compete at iPhone price points. There are too many uninformed, nontechies out there. I often get approached by people in wonderment over what my phone is (currently go between HTC 10, LG G5, Nexus 6P)...when I tell them what it is and what I paid for it, the reaction at least 80%, maybe even 90%, of the time is..."you could've bought an 8gig iPhone for that price!" I mean really?! Their stand alone audio solution is so inferior to me. No SD card for expansion, obviously inferior sound (and I'm no supercool audiophile in any sense if the word), and closed down OS....come on. You essentially need an external amp/DAC if you are super serious about your music. But I'm drunk at a wedding reception right now, so I may regret this post later on, lol.

LeTV is like Xiaomi in that they cover the cost for the phone by the services they provide ie music streaming, apps and such. More often than not, their phones are actually selling at a loss as they're actively undercutting the competition to push their phones out into the market.

How do you know this? You are claiming that pretty much all smartphone manufacturers are selling at a loss? I hope you have some evidence to back up that extraordinary claim. All I know is what ZTE is selling the Axon 7 for is not some sort of hot deal. It's just the maximum standard price in that market segment. Nothing more. It's not priced competitively because they aren't trying to compete on price.

Apparently from what others have reported the streaming apps do not use the premium DAC. Personally I dont hold that of high importance. Still, as an overall package, I think this is a very good choice. RF performance problems have been pretty widely reported, but the update seems to have helped this at least somewhat. ZTE is doing some very interesting things at aggressive price points.

I have tested this today and the premium DAC works for me in both the internal player and two external players, UAPP and Onkyo HF player. I listened to the track "Roadhouses & Automobiles" from Chris Jones and with the premium DAC you hear an amazing amount more detail. It is almost equal to the Chord Hugo, maybe even better at detail retrieval but a little lacking in power. I do not have Spotify so can't test that yet but will ask someone with Spotify to report streaming players as well.

Meh, I didn't come here to argue.

Believe me or don't believe me, you're smart enough to do research.

Can you describe the sound?

- treble quite uncontrolled. It is too much but not mean detail. It is called cloudy mass of treble.
- woman voice is not clean, not smooth as it should be. Not authentic voice
- soundstage not big not wide.
- cannot feel deep bass as if it were not there. But I feel Impact and mid bass okay.

Not an impressive one. I believe it is worse cuz of software sucks.

For me , letv max/pro > lg v10 > htc10 > axon 7

Forget to tell about power, there is really less volume control (15 steps).

If letv max volume =50% for listen certain song then axon7 need 70% which dissapoint me.

Yes LeTV is the same as LeEco, but all LeEco phones dont have 3.5mm jack, unless you want to use an adapter for USB type C to 3.5mm jack. Just get the Letv Le Max, they lowered the price on Aliexpress for the 128gb version to $299.
