I've heard about them, but after several comparison threads, I think the Sony MDR-V6s are better. Apparently (I have ordered them but they haven't come yet) the Sonys have very tight and thumpy bass (Which is really fun on Rock and Techno) and seems to be a good fit for what you want. They're closed back, and if you invest in some Beyerdynamic Velour pads, it greatly increases their longevity. Overall, from what i've heard, its a great -100$ pair of cans. But they're not without their faults. From what I've read, their highs are pretty bright and can sometimes become a little screechy. And there's little to no soundstage on them (But that can be fixed with the velour pads). Can't wait for mine.
Ordered my m50 from unique_squared on ebay for 107 shipped on Saturday.
My listening constitutes much of the similar stuff you listen to you MrPopo (with some punk and classical thrown in for good measure), so I'll keep you updated on how they sound with some Biggie blasting from them.
