I am looking for the best pair of full size Headphones I can get for around $200 ,I am willing to search for them on ebay or buy them new.
 
I listen to a variety of music but tend to lean more towards bands like Tool ,Raidiohead the Pixies etc
 
so give me your personal opinion's based on your experience because more than likely this will be an internet purchase with no chance to listen before I buy,
thanks in advance for your help.
 
oh and the $200 is not a price set in stone ,I could go a bit higher if it is worth it .

I found a used set on Amazon for $195 is this a good price?I am definitely considering these because of the great revues ,

HD25 isn't a full size headphone, its on-ears.
 
For your taste, SRH840/HFi780...for closed headphones.

for isolation the closed ear design might be better ,I have never owned a set of shure headphones but all my favorite phono cartridges are from shure ,
any thoughts on the Audio-Technica ATH-M50  ?

I don't really like M50. Its technically a good headphone for the price, but i find the Ultrasone HFi line, better imo.
 
If you want mainly punchy bass, i ll recommend you HFi580, a very fun headphone. SRH840 is a very good headphone, much more neutral, an excellent all rounder for the price.

Yeah, they're both great, just a different type of great. 

 That's why auditions are so important. For hard/alt rock I can see either set of cans being a top choice, but for different reasons.

For $200 US you can get Grado SR-225i
 
I'm writing this from Canada, up here the SR-80i have sold for as much as $165, SR-125i for as much as $220.
Pricies do seem to be dropping in Canada though.

Srh840 is the best for $200 let alone $300. Even if they were $300 the would compare to the other closed back competition very well.

I really want the best overall sound ,so closed or open are both fine . Ive been offered a pair of  Grado SR325is for $220 how would these compare to the suggestions so far ?
