I have an ipod touch that is full of rock (classic and modern) soft and hard) and some country. i recently bought skull candy skull crushers (i know they are hated on here) and i hated them as well and am returning them because they sounded so bad with rock music. i want head phones that will play my music crisp and they way it was intended to be heard not with obnoxios bass that hurts my ears, i dont mind bass but come on!
My budget is 95$ tops but would prefer it to be less i dont care about looks, just sound and comfort so i probly wont want grados what would be your top suggestions.
                                                                  thx!

I don't know why everyone thinks Grado's are so uncomfortable. They are among the *most* comfortable for the first 1/2. They are extremely light.

But yes, Grado will most likely be your best bet. I would go for the SR80i, as many tend to prefer it of the 60i due to more bass.

I'm not an expert on the subject but from my research I know the vast majority of users here will recommend you the Grados. SR60 and 80 would be great for you. They aren't necessarily uncomfortable, it varies from person to person. Some people find them less comfortable than others but you can't argue that they are considerably lighter than most of your options.

Also great bang for the buck at $99.

ok i will definatly consider the sr80i's but what would be the next best for rock for say under 60 bucks? and would they be comparable?

You can mod the SR60is into some SR325s with no problem. Check this out... http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/508459/sr60-mod
I would say go for the SR60s and don't look back.

Add another vote for the SR80's from me. I haven't listened to the "i" variation, but I regret the day I traded my SR80's. I don't think you can beat the sound for the price for rock music.

add another vote for the sr80's, just out of curiosity how much of a step up does everybody consider the 125i? I listened to everything from the sr60 to the 325i at a local shop and the differences seemed very subtle to me...

If you can't tell the difference between a 60 and 325...consider yourself lucky and save yourself $230. To my ears the 325 stomps the 60 into the ground.

Not comparing those 2 in particulars, but I started with the 60 and worked my way up listening to jimi hendrix in the shop out of a $600 solid state amp. With each step up I noticed that the differences were very subtle, and to me it didn't seem justifiable by the price gaps. Then again I really shouldn't be passing judgement from listening to 1 song per pair :)

I understand what you are saying. When I demoed the Grados I could not tell much if any difference between the 60, 80, and 125. The 225 is where the first jump was made and for me, the 325 was even better than the 225. I spent about 4 hours with the Grado lineup including the RS2 and GS1000 with the last hour A/Bing the 225 and 325...the only reason I spent that much time with the last two was because I was trying to convince myself that the 225 and 325 were close because I really didn't want to spend $300 on a pair of headphones at the time...however I just couldn't short myself when I knew in my heart that to my ears the 325 was just clearly superior. But of course like most of this hobby...YMMV.
